[97 XJ] radiator cooling fan problem by
Erik Sabowski
this is not for my jeep, but a friend's '97 XJ
yesterday, one of the cooling fans on the radiator (the one on the
driver's side) would continue to run after the vehicle was shut off. i
guess that in itself is not so strange, my VW Jetta will continue to run
the fan for a few minutes when it is...

ZJ Weird Oil Pressure Problem followup by
J. Clarke[_2_]
Well, finally got the pan off. Turns out I was right, there was an
effing maple leaf stuck to the pickup. There was other crud in the
pickup. Was getting dark when I got it off so I knocked off for the
night. Manana I pull the pump and pickup, clean out the pan and pickup,
put in a new oil...

ZJ vs. XJ - General Opinions and advice wanted by
Les[_2_]
I'm a long time YJ owner, and need something bigger. I've been looking
around at 4.0L ZJs and XJs . Most everything in my price range has higher
miles, which doesn't necessarily bother me. I've had 2 YJs with over 150K
each and the 4.0 is probably the most reliable engine I've ever been...

ZJ transmission question by
Scott Stone
I have a 96 ZJ, V8 Quadratrack with 105k miles on it, 4.5" lift.
The transmission has had a quirk for about a year now. Right after it
shifts to 2nd gear, 3 seconds after the shift it tries to shift again.
It shifts out of 2nd, and than almost immediately returns back to
second. It is between...

ZJ Tranny or TC whine? by
Les[_2_]
I test drove another ZJ today, and noticed a little whine coming from the
TC/Tranny area of the floor. This one had a 242 Select Trac, and all the
other ones I've driven had the 231. It didn't really sound like a grinding
or anything, just little gear whine sound, kinda like the the typical...

ZJ track bar axle end repair lessons learned by
J. Clarke[_2_]
Finally got around to welding on a washer. So far so good but I'm not
really happy with it.
First lesson learned. There are no readily available commercial washers
that are a good fit on a 10mm bolt. 3/8 is tighter on it than 10mm.
9mm won't fit over it, nor will 5/16.
Second lesson...

ZJ Sway Bar Link by
J. Clarke
Yeah, I know it's an anti-roll bar but when you go to buy the repair part
it's called a "sway bar link".
Anyway, one of mine was busted and had occasion to change it. This was on a
'97 where for some reason it has a ball joint.
Most of the replacement went easily but getting the ball joint out...

ZJ steering problem.. by
Snow
Ok well after what I was hoping to be a completely problem free weekend trip
with the ZJ, It NOW has a problem... well it has slightly had this as an
intermittent problem for awhile but this weekend it seemed to happen all the
time.
The problem: when turning in parking lots or at slow speeds,...

ZJ Starter by
J. Clarke[_5_]
Does anybody know of a decent starter for the '97 5.2 ZJ? I seem to be
getting about 2 years out of the ones from the auto parts stores and
it's a pain in the butt.

ZJ springs by
The Merg
For the XJ, I'm planning on following the budget boost writeup at:
http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/home_brew_budget_boost.htm
It says to use ZJ V8 springs. I've been looking at them, and it seems
that they used the same springs for both the 4.0L and the V8 -
Partsamerica.com says that...

ZJ recommended regular maintenance by
kaig
I bought a used 1997 ZJ three years ago, and thinking about it, I've
let maintenance slip quite a bit -- that is, I did regular oil changes,
and that's just about it. The previous owner should me the work sheet
from a pretty major tune-up at around 70k miles, but I'm up to 120k
now. I just put on...

ZJ noise by
[email protected]
I have a 95 Grand Cherokee w/ 318 and quadra trac that until recently
was driving great. recently it developed a noise in the upper engine
area and I nailed it down to the Idler pully between the alternator and
a/c compressor. I replaced it and the noise sort of went away, the
grinding screech of...

ZJ Headlights by
Rob[_5_]
All,
My passenger side headlight lens fell out the other day, and of course
I then ran it over. I've been quoted a price of £190 + VAT for a
replacement. It seems that you can only buy the whole fitting, not
just the glass. Now this price to me seems astronomical - it's
actually more than my first...

ZJ Engine overhaul questions by
J. Clarke
My 97 ZJ needs an engine overhaul--has a cracked ring (or worse). I'm
debating my options. Pulling the engine, overhauling it myself, and
putting it back is out--with the engine out of the Jeep I wouldn't
have any way to get the block to the machine shop. So I'm debating
whether to
(a) get...

ZJ defogging problem, wifey is unhappy by

Ok, here's the problem on these nice rainy days when the windshield fogs up
the defroster has a hell of a time trying to clear it, the wifey is getting
a tad upset that she has to drive with the window open to clear the fog
(keeps complaining about getting wet... I already handed her a...
