Another gas leak by Dioclese
This time I know where it is, and what it is that's leaking. Need help either finding the entire OEM assembly, OR, what I need to get to make some fascsimile of it. Again, 88 Fox Wagon GL, 1.8L CIS-E. The culprit is the hose assembly that goes from the fuel filter to the steel line under the...

2000 Jetta by lobo
Our Jetta suddenly will not beep the horn when you lock the doors with the remote. Lights still flash and I have replaced the battery in the remote. Any ideas why this would just start and were to look? Thanks in advance, Ray

3 odd bolts on '81 AC compressor by nutso fasst
This is an '81 Scirocco. There are 3 bolts that attach the pulley free-spinner (or whatever it's called) to the compressor body. I haven't had a belt on the AC for decades, but somehow those 3 bolts have vibrated loose and all three are gone, leaving the pulley thingy vibrating loudly...

1996 Jetta Gasoline Odor by [email protected]
I have a 1996 VW Jetta 2.0 liter with standard shift and air conditioning which has a gasoline odor especially when the air conditioning is on. I don't see any evidence of gasoline leakage under the hood or elsewhere. Any ideas would be appreciated.

VW bug by Dioclese
Read in a recent issue of a automotive magazine that VW intends to build a beetle based on the current Golf platform. That is, small and economical. Are they going back to the beetle's original intent? -- Dave

HC a little high - why? by nutso fasst
Hi all. 81 Scirocco has 255K+ miles on original motor. Wife drove it less than 3400 miles during the last 2 years. It seemed to be running good, so I just drove it to the smog tester without any interim hard driving. It failed. HC was 90/110ppm at 15/25mph 2 years ago but is now 190/150 (max is...

Has anybody any tips for replacing the engine mounts on a 1984 VW diesel rabbit? I've looked through all the manuals I've got, and they all seem to just gloss over it. Thanks, Reid

3 odd bolts on '81 AC compressor by nutso fasst
As followup to an unanswered question I posted last month, the answer is that the 4 bolts (not 3) holding the clutch pulley to the compressor actually ARE US standard 1/2" coarse thread bolts. Strange, since this is a German-built car. nf

A3 Golf clutch cable reconnect by [email protected]
Hi, The small clip that the clutch cable attaches to (on the gearbox end in the engine bay) broke. I have bought a new clip, but in trying to reattached the cable, the cable seems to be about 3cm (1 inch) too short to reach the clip where it meets the clutch / gearbox housing. This is after...

VW Factory new car warranty by Mister Bear
I have heard that VW is changing from a 4-year new car warranty to a 3-year warranty with all regular maintenance included. This might affect my buying decision, Is a 3-year, 36,000 mile warranty with all maintenance included a better deal? There can't be too much maintenance, outside of...

what's that noise? by Reid Fleming[_2_]
I've got a '84 VW turbo diesel rabbit that emits a strange noise at around 90kph. The noise is coming from the right side of the car. It is most evident at around 90 in either 4th or 5th gear. Rather than clumsily try to describe this noise, I've put up a sound file he ...
