king pins / link pins by zigford
I took the body off of my 63 beetle the other day, just to do I couple of jobs easier. I noticed that the drivers side inner tie rod was loose, so am replacing that. Also noticed that the upper drivers side link pin has stacks of movement in it (Side to side) Is there a way to tighten this, or...

could I get some feedback on freeway flyer trannys? by cool 60 ghia
Hey folks, I was wondering what has been your experience with the "freeway flyer" tranny in a bug or ghia application. I am considering going for the 3.88:1 R/P with stock gearing on my 1960 Ghia. I've got a 1600 DP engine with Engle 110 camshaft and it runs great (with ~40,000 miles...

lowered or just sagging? by Sneaks
The rear of my '68 is either lowered or sagging, I don't know how to tell which. It's been this way since I got it 3 years ago, the wheels tip in at the top and snug under the lip of the fenders more than stock. I'm thinking of lifting it since the exhaust drag quite easily and the front is...

I hate stupid mechanics by Eduardo K.
Veeduber post about hot distributors just slapped me on the face today. Not working on an aircooled VW, but the same nevertheless. Let me tell the story. My 1990 Citroen BX failed the safety inspection last week for no reverse lights. Easy fix, right? The lights come on if you wiggle the lever...

vert question? by D&LBusch
I havea 79 vert with a small gap above the rear right window - 1/8 inch. The car is in great shape. The previous owner had a new top installed. With the understanding that this is not a beater but a show wiinner with no other problems, can the top alignment be adjusted somehow? Thanks, David

Nutty Video from Japan by Bill Berckman
Probably not nuttier than Jan's video from Holland, but check out this video from Japan where those crazy guys over there give an unwelcome surprise for people using a porto potty. http://www.sulecki.de/Downloads/japan_port_o_potty_prank.wmv

Shaft wearing down? by KWW[_1_]
On the '65 swing axle I have replaced the rear wheel seals and had them replaced by some old salts a number of times now. Often it will stay dry for a while but inevitably starts to leak transmission oil down the back side of the tire (and around the rear drum). More and more I am suspecting...

Does this make any sense? ? ? by rdoc
Please follow this one for a bit: Again... working on a newly acquired chopped down Beetle Dune Buggy. Not a pro job... obviously some guys in a backyard did it. It's a 70 chassis with a 69 Solex 30 PICT 2 carb on a 1600 74 motor. I previously posted that it runs a little sluggish and then the...

Hi guys, I have a 1971 1600s - nice little runner when running! At the moment starting it is a bit of a bugger. When the manual box is in neutral the starter motor screams and does not engage. Press the clutch and put into 1st with the clutch down engine starts. Any advice Cheers Bean

Should I paint it? by
Hi all, I've just bought a 71> backplate for my 68 bus. Taken off the adjuster bracket to weld on the 68 bracket. I was wondering should I paint the backplate. It came in bare metal and because it gets very hot when braking and all the original ones seem not painted is it worth painting or just...

heater channel question by zigford
Howdie again. I have gotten as far as removing all paint from around the heater channel to remove spot welds and the like. Now what do I do with the pipe that delivers the heat? Is there a way to reuse it? is there a way to remove it without cutting it? If I do have to cut it, where do I...
