FS: 74 VW Beetle by
Zap
Three years ago, my then 15 year old daughter "Lily" and I located a bug in a field in North Richland Hills. Rusted and almost beaten, we began to restore the bug now known as Bucky. We replace the floor pans, front and rear windows, break system, dash, all fenders, wheels, headliner, door covers,...

1974 Standard Wiring Help by
Zap
Hi All,
Purchased Main Wiring Harness and installed as much as I could, but still
can't seem to get headlight, turn signials, taillights and brake lights to
work. The good news is that the doom light works and I did save 15% on my
insurance. Can anyone help with my wiring problem???
Thanks in...

73 bus - mystery control by
Zeeber
Hey all,
I've been lurking awhile and already learned tons from this site.
I've previously owned two beetles, a '73 super and a '74 sunbug.
Just recently, however, I've come into the possession of a '73 Kombi
and I'm baffled by a control I can find no reference to (online or
elsewhere).
The...

Body swap (63 for 70) by
zigford
Will a 70 (Standard Beetle) body fit on a 63 chasis?
I have a spare body lined up and rather than replace heater channel's
and various other rusted bits, this would be easier if no modifications
are nessecary.
Cheers

king pins / link pins by
zigford
I took the body off of my 63 beetle the other day, just to do I couple
of jobs easier.
I noticed that the drivers side inner tie rod was loose, so am
replacing that.
Also noticed that the upper drivers side link pin has stacks of
movement in it (Side to side)
Is there a way to tighten this, or...

heater channel question by
zigford
Howdie again.
I have gotten as far as removing all paint from around the heater
channel to remove spot welds and the like.
Now what do I do with the pipe that delivers the heat? Is there a way
to reuse it? is there a way to remove it without cutting it? If I do
have to cut it, where do I...

Pedal cluster by
zigford
Hey hey. I just recieved my "Heater channel replacement "Bug me
video". I am going to bring some vw's back to life.
The bug me video's show how to remove the pedal cluster for a US left
hand drive, which looks pretty simple.
However, living in Australia, I have right hand drive bugs.
Instead of...

Engine lid by
zigford
The 57 I obtained recently is missing the engine lid. It did come with
two spares from a 60 something bug. Without much effort I had a quick
go at installing one of these lids and it doesn't seem to fit.
Will one of these actually fit on my 57 (oval), and I just need to put
a bit more omph into...

57 oval and 63 bug by
zigford
I just purchased the above mentioned vehicles, the 57 needs a fair bit
of work but its do-able.
Anyway, the point of this post is that these are my first bugs and my
first restore jobs.
If someone can give me any pointers on rust, painting and converting
6volt to 12, twould be nice.
1 question...

How long does a solid shortblock/bottom end last by
zigford
I know nobody likes to answer these questions as their a tons of
variables to consider such as: How often oil is changed, oil quality,
engine temp, thrashing the engine, blah blah.
But I have heard that the long block usually lasts about 60,000 miles.
How long can you expect a well looked after...

have any of you guys seen the beetle doing a long burnout, racing a lambo
and other stuff on
www.streetfire.net ? I read it was turbocharged but so are the cars it
races. There are several pages and I have seen the same white beetle on
three vids. I want mine to do that.
any opinions?

run-on and excessive fuel consumption, 1965 Bug by
[email protected]
I've been reading posts on this website for a long time now, but this
is my first post. And since I can usually take care of problems on my
own, it's going to be a long post.
I've got a 1965 VW Type 1, stock 1200, 6 volt. Bahama Blue. Name:
Frauline. My grandfather bought it new in 1965 and gave...

'65 bug... defective choke or heater element? by
[email protected]
Hey everyone, i posted here earlier about my run-on problems. Many
thanks to everyone who replied, but nothing worked out for me. So i've
got a new idea. I think that my engine diesels/runs on so badly after
i shut it off is because the RPM is too high. I set the idle RPM and
mixture properly...

generator to alternator conversion by
[email protected]
Well I can see that there have been a number of posts about this over
the years, but none of the other ones really answer my questions.
I have a 1965 VW Type 1 (1200cc engine) and I am upgrading it from 6v
to 12v, replacing all the normal things (generator with alternator,
oil stand, coil, flasher...
