99 Passat by
Tado
I am considering buying a 99 Passat but just wanted to ask
the group first if there is any major problems with this car.
I was recently the owner of a 91 Passat and had tons of problems
with the auto tranny and ending up installing 3 used ones over a
course of 3 years but I heard the tranny problem...

Reducing NOx emissions- '92 Golf by
Garry Tarr
I have a '92 Golf (1.8L gas engine, Digifant II control, no EGR) with
less than 60,000 miles. The car has passed many emissions tests over
the years. The car runs well, with lots of power and good fuel economy.
It does not ping under any normal load. On the last ASM2525 test I
got the following...

Fault Codes P1557 and P1136 by
Michael Malloy
My check engine light came on and I determined that the fault codes were
P1557 and P1136. What should I look for in regards to these problems.
Anything I might be able to fix myself?

George600R
Hi All,
Just wondering if I really need to take my 98 GTI into the dealership to
change the battery, as it recommends. The user manual mentions that the
computer needs to be reset?!
Any help would be appreciated,

Switching/Mixing Motor Oils? by
Tavish Muldoon
Hello,
I ususally get synthetic oil. Sometimes however, while travelling, I
need to top up, and put in a regular oil.
In the past, the mechanic would give me an oil change for free - but
it would be regular oil (no synthetic). Other times if synthetic was
handy it would go in.
Is there a...

Mike Hellmund
Will 16" wheels fit in my cabby? If so what offset do I need and what tire
size would you recommend?
Will this affect my speedo?
Thanks!

oil consumpstion question by
Steve D.
Hello. I'm new to this Newsgroup and wondered if anyone could advise me whether it is unusual for a 2000 2.0 VW Bug to use more than 1 qt. of oil between oil changes? Manual transmission - heavy rush-hour daily commute.
Thanks in advance. -Steve. D.-

1984 Wolfsburg: 10-yr shed sitting, restore? by
JoVee
I had a '78 Rabbit I bought new and kept running till it was killed at 160k.
There's no car I've liked as well since.
This is an 84 Wolfsburg Rabbit that a friend left me.
It's been in a shed,
dusty not rusty
hasn't been started since stored,
no special storage procedures,
The tires hold air,

VERY Slow Stevie Boy by

First Stevie Boy posts this:
> But I'm used to driving cars that do it in under 7, and any small or
> medium sized sedan that can't feels VERY slow to me.
Than he posts this:
> The only one of these cars I have *owned* is the 2002 GTi.
Than Edmunds (and other mags) write this:

Replacement mirrors, '87 Scirocco by
Bill Leary
The mirrors in my '87 Scirocco are going bad. The silvering on the backs is
"rotting."
I've got new mirrors from a mirror supply house and was told that the easiest
way to get the old ones out was to just break them.
Well, that seems OK, except that the current mirrors have defoggers that go...

Door locks on Passat by

I recently purchased a 99 Passat GLS and have a quick question.
The door lock on the outside drivers door will unlock and lock
only the drivers door, but it will not arm/disarm the alarm and
will not lock/unlock all the other door locks. The passenger door
lock and trunk lock work as described in...

Do I need a throttle body/fuel injector service? by
Sebastian
Hi all,
I'm just wondering if this is worth doing. My car runs fine (except for
rough idle for a minute or so when I first start the car - in the morning).
It is a 2.0 1999 New Jetta with 220,000 Km. Never done this service and
the dealer recomends it. They want CND$100 for the throttle body...

Switching between Engine Oils Synthetic and Regular? by
Tavish Muldoon
I usually put in Synthetic on my old 92 Passat, but the I went to the
garage, they put in regular oil. No difference noted.
Last time, I put in synthetic - no problems.
There is a small leak - so on trips when I have to top it up - some
places do not have synthetic - so I use regular.
For the...
