Help: '99 TJ won't start -- rapid popping sound by jlomme
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to start looking for the source of this problem: when I try to start my 1999 TJ, the engine will turn over slowly two or three times and then stop turning over, then I'll hear a rapid-fire popping/snapping noise. The lights inside,...

Where to put my spare?? by Eric
After finally cleaning my tires today I noticed a small chunk of rubber is missing from one of my tire's sidewalls (Rear driver side). I've been wheeling them pretty hard for the past year or so, so I guess I can't complain it took this long... it is down to the threads, so I guess I need to take...

Power steering 89yj 4.2 by Scott Smith
I would like to do a flush and fill of the power steering system. I was thinking of draining the old, then using ATF fluid to do a flush (so fill it and then drive around the farm for 1/2 hr) then draining and putting in the right powersteering fluid in. Question: What is the right power steering...

Brake oil pressure problem by popeyeball
My 97 TJ needs the brake pedal pumped before driving or I get squealing from rear brakes when backing out of the drive way. This happens when the cold weather sets in. This was a slight problem last winter and had it checked in the Spring. I got a new set of tires and had the rear brakes checked....

UK dealers aren't all bad all the time by Danny
I noticed a loss of coolant in my '97 Cherokee 4.0l just before Xmas, which developed into a large leak by Christmas eve. After Xmas I got the local radiator specialist to look. They advised that it would almost certainly be the water pump, but they'd pressure test it anyway. It was the water...

How hard to swap a 4 for a 6? by Dan Hoskin
Hi again, I am looking at some really clean YJ's whose only shortcomings are their 4 cyl powerplants. Are there any differences in the rest of the powertrain from a 4 to a 6 cyl. Jeep? Any suspension differences? I guess basically what I am asking is, if I buy the beautiful little Jeep with the 4...

I need to replace a leaky rear seal in the automatic transmission. Not sure if I have the 42RE or 44RE or AISIN MODEL 03-40 transmission. My transmission has a metal cup that extends from the end of the tail of the transmission. The seal is seated in the tail inside of this metal cup. This cup...
