'00 Jetta GLS VR6 Buying Advice by [email protected]
If "Am I getting a good deal" messages are inappropriate for this group, I apologize... I'm considering purchasing a '00 Jetta GLS VR6 with approx. 41K miles on it. It comes certified pre-owned by VW and the carfax report comes back clean. The interior/exterior seem great. The dealer (after...

'00 Passat V6 - timing belt at 80k miles? by [email protected]
About to take my '00 Passat wagon (GLX V6) in for the big 80k service. The maint. schedule says "timing belt - check condition" at 80k and "timing belt - replace" at 105k. Dealer "suggests replacing early", sight unseen. The car's only major repair to date has been a radiator replacement. I...

'00 VW Jetta 2.0 Oil change question by genius
Hey everyone, I am new to this group and helped a friend change their oil in a 2000 Jetta with 2.0l 4cyl, auto trans. I have changed oil on all my cars as long as I have been driving. This Jetta had no oil on the stick when I started and I suspected a bad oil change prior (supposedly Big O). ...

'01 GOLF TDI: Timing Belt...do I really need to change it? by [email protected]
I have an '01 Golf TDI with 302,000km on it....never going back to gas engines! Its due for its 3rd timing belt change. Do I really need to do this? The last 2 times I changed it, here was hardly any wear on it at all. I plan on keeping the car another 100,000km. Your thoughts are apreciated.

'01 Passat Tie rod end boots by Chuck Tribolet
The rubber boots on my GF's ;01 Passat wagon are torn. The dealer's answer is to replace the whole tie rod end (which of course implies a partial realignment) when all that's bad is the boot. Is there any source for just the boot? Chuck Tribolet

'01 Passat wagon, rear door dummy "lock cylinder housing" wants to fall out. by Chuck Tribolet
My GF has an '01 Passat wagon. On the driver's side rear door, what the service manual calls the "lock cylinder housing" wants to fall out. Except that she has keyless entry, so there's no lock cylinder in the rear doors, and so it's a dummy plug and there's no screw in the door jamb that would...

'02 Golf DRL swap by Mr.Eddy
Has anybody considered, or even accomplished changing the DRL on an A4 Golf from using the low beams to using the small, secondary bulb that resides in the high beam reflector? This little bulb comes on when you turn the headlight switch on and I think it would be a better choice for the DRL. I've...

'02 Jetta Wagon roof racks by Craig Faison
OK, call me a cheapskate, but $190 for crossbars (from VW) for the factory side rails seems high. A quick look shows Yakima and Thule to be only marginally cheaper. Any other alternatives? thanks, Craig

'02 Passat air filter by Jim Phelps
Are there any tricks to replacing the engine intake air filter on the 1.8T ? I removr the intake pipe, unscrew the screws on the top of the heat shield and undo the hose clamp connection. It kinda concerns me that all of those FI hoses are right there. Damm it is a pain to change. Maybe that is...

'02 Passat Electrical by steve
Turn signal problems. My wife just called saying that her 02 Passat turn signals click, on dash, about 3 times than stop flashing. Is this a known problem ? Definetly not the fuse. About 2 months ago the HVAC lights on the dash went dark for 1 day. Perhaps these could have been related. It is a...

'02 passat rear brake help by tom misiak
Hi, I have a gls wagon. After removing the caliper, I tried turning the piston clockwise. After many turns with no results, I turned the piston about a revolution counterclockwise. This, unfortunately, pushed the piston out quite a bit more than where I started at. I then learned about the...

'03 golf 1.8t by Scott
I'm considering buying an 03 golf 1.8t. Its silver, 18,000 miles, carfax report shows no accidents or anything out of the ordinary (it's a lease from florida). The car appears clean inside and out aside from a few paint chips on the front bumper. I've noticed, however, that at idle and low rpms...

I am looking to buy a used 2004 Jetta GL with just over 43k miles on it at a local used car dealer here. The price is within my range the only thing I am concerned about is hearing of issues with Jettas. On Consumer Affairs there are many issues brought forth by current and previous Jetta owners...
