ad: 74 bus shell ready to restore located near Portland by [email protected]
This is a 1974 VW Bus with ZERO dents and minimal rust. All glass is 100% intact with no visible cracks or chips. The transmission is still in place. The engine from this bus is gone, but there is another type 4 engine (1.8L) with most of the parts in a big pile in the back. One of the heads has...

Florida Girls by WES PEARSON
Florida Girls... Three men were sitting together bragging about how they had given their new wives duties. The first man had married a woman from Alabama, and bragged that he had told his wife she was going to do all the dishes and house cleaning that needed done at their house. He said that it...

Little O/T Eng to Air Compressor Conversion by Wes Pearson
I saw a picture of a Briggs and Statton one cylinder motor that had been converted into an air compressor and got to thinking about doing the same thing to a 36 hp 1200 CC bug engine. The basic change is to remove the push rods and somehow lock the lifters in place, install two one way air valves...

Spot Weld Paste by Wes Pearson
The VW Manual (Big Blue One) talks about a spot weld paste that you put on seams before welding to make them water tight and rust proof. Does anyone use this and where can one find it?

Rust Bullet by WES PEARSON
Has anyone used this product. The web site make it sound really great but then it's there to sell their product. Seems a bit on the expensive side but if it's as good as they claim it might be worth it. Anyone? Anyone? Class? Class? -- Wes Pearson ...

Engine runs rough exept during acceleration by [email protected]
Hello, I have a 95 VW Golf. Lately the engine has been running roughly when I am iddling a lot (in traffic) and even when I am driving faster (on the highway). It has been a bit intermittant but becoming more regular. The engine has been running roughly EXEPT when I accelerate. I am thinking that...

Rebuilding generator by [email protected]
Hello, I found that my 12 volt generator had a wierd vibration. So I started to investigate and reaching behind to the fan, I could wiggle it a bit side to side. Bad bearing. Last night, I pulled the generator and dissassembled it. Yes, the bearing was bad so I replace both the front and...

Thoughts on low power in 4th gear by watson524
Since you guys were dead on with our fuel pump/dead engine issue, my husband thought this might be a good place to post our power loss issue. We've had this problem in our 74 Bug for a while now (since my husband brought it back to life about 5 years ago after it sat for about 10 years). In 4th...

Many thanks to all who offered help on fuel pump/engine dying by watson524
Thanks to all who offered help on my engine dying after fuel pump replacement issue. We drained the oil/gas that was in the case, cleaned out the air filter and it's running as normal now! So glad that it wasn't something terribly worse. Thanks again!

Do engine heads come in anything except aluminum? by watson524
Wondering if you can get heads in any other material than aluminum? Clearly steel would be too heavy but it seems I often hear that there's great concern about stripping the head when doing a plug change and since I'm about to go down that road, I'm wondering if head come in a "harder" material...

VW Beetle cooling by [email protected]
Hi group, I am looking to buy a beetle but am confused on whether what the owner has done to the beetle is good or bad for it. He has essentially capped off the Fan housing air outputs to the heat vents. (I can send a picture) And also there is no hose from the intake cleaner for preheated...

Carburetor problem? by warlock
I've noticed over the past 4 weeks that my '74 Super Beetle just stops. I might be driving at 30 - 40 mph and the car loses power and the engine dies. Or I can be slowing down for a light and as soon as I come to a complete stop the engine dies. In both situations the car starts up...

Cross shaft question by warlock
Fellow air-cooled drivers, I have a question regarding the cross shaft that holds the throw out bearing. One of the welds broke a few weeks ago and I ended up having it rewelded. This transmission is rebuilt from a shop. They installed an after-market part so I picked up a German one from the...
