Goldwing engine for Baja by Anthony
Other than it has a built in gearbox and won't connect up to the VW transaxle without major surgery, sure why not? I think a 2.2L 16 valve Subaru engine would be a far more practical way to go to make a Bug insanely fast. Tony "Tweak" > wrote in...

How much oil can leak by Anthony
I replaced the wheel seals in my 59 bug. And they leak. I have done this twice now. The driver side leaks a little. The other side leaks a lot. The first time I took them apart the rubber seals, for whatever reason, got tweaked. The next time I installed them differently, by placing the spacer and...

I haven't had the bug out on the road for about two months now. It's been sitting b/c I'm trying to sell it. So my brother calls me and says he's thinking about buying it. Well, this means I need to run a tune up, and drive it around to lubricate everything. Anyway, after cleaning off the...

Argh....I have to sell her. by Anthony
Sad but true. Anyway, this is my first time selling a car. I would appreciate any hints and tips, and no, I don't plan on selling it to someone who won't take care of her. That's why I'm posting here...I want to know where I can advertise the car to people who are aircooled enthusiasts. ...

It's that time of year again, and those fweembucks are gonna go to waste soon, so I put 'em to good use and ordered three quarts of John C's Amsoil synthetic gear lube. Any tips for putting the new stuff in and taking the old out? First time I've changed the gear oil on my car; it's a '73...

So I installed a new transaxle ... by Anthony Lopez
.... on a 59 VW bug. I used the Bentley shop manual to installed all the hardware per spec. And wouldn't you know it, I put transmission oil and two days later it started leaking from both rear wheels. Kind of slow on the driver side, a little faster on the passenger side. The one major thing...

EMPI ignition update by Anthony W

Valve clearance by Anthony W
The guy at the local air cooled VW shop here told me that with swivel foot valve adjusters that the valve clearance should be set at .002" cold. This seems awfully tight to me and I'm concerned about burning up my valves. Any opinions? Tony

Brake upgrade by Anthony W
Now that I have a larger and more powerful engine in my 66 Baja, the brakes are not up to the job any more. I'd like to keep the wide 5 pattern but the cost of a wide 5 disk brake conversion is more than I want to spend. Is there any way to use old type 2 front brakes on a bug? If all else...

tachometer by Anthony W
Anybody try one of those 2" VDO tachometers? Along the way of replacing my oil pressure gage, I installed a 3 hole gage panel over were the old speaker hole was. I had to do a bit of cutting with my dremmel tool and went through almost a whole pack of those tiny cutoff wheels but it fits well and...

Hood wanted by Anthony W
I'm just getting the perpetual project on the road and I would like to keep the fingers of on lookers off the engine of my Baja bug as much as possible. I'm looking for a hood that is in perhaps less than great condition as I'm going to scallop off the lower 1/3 or so. I plan to use Pin type hood...

How about once a weak or so some one posts a message with all the links, his full name and address and the full story. Then we shun him. I mean we don't reply to his posts and ignore his replies to our posts. If we could stick to this, I think this newsgroup would be a better place. Anyway...
