93 Golf, and do want to go diesel.
Timing belt just done, exhaust from manifold back is new, has air, new

Oil & Filter by
WVK
VW sent a list of approved oils for my 1.8t Passat which I have
misplaced. Is that list available on the Internet? And I understand that
a larger filter is now recommended due to sludge issues. Is there a list
of ones that meet this requirement?
Thanks
WVK

LED Third Brakelight Wanted (OT) by
H2Only
I am looking for somebody that markets a strip of red LED lights
specifically for use as a third brakelight. The one in my Scirocco is
along the lower part of the window only about 6" above the main lights
(I could never see the point of having it that low on so many cars).
I want to put it along...

2000 Passat V6 Engine Misfire + Check Engine light by
Sergio
Folks, I'm at wit's end with the following problem:
When the car was about two years old (and just a couple of months after
the 40K service), the check engine light began to turn on occasionally.
Eventually, I started to notice what seemed to be a misfiring /
sputtering of the engine at low RPMs...

Used/New R32's. by
John Bottonari
1. Are there still new R32's about? I realize this is perhaps an
unanswerable question, but would appreciate any suggestions if no sightings
available.
2. Is there an inordinate number of R32's (used) for sale already? Seem to
be a lot on e-bay, and one local dealer has one. All are...

6 speed trans for Scirocco by
Bill Leary
I'm looking for a source for a six speed transmission for a 16V Scirocco.
If it could also have a limited slip differential, that would be a plus.
I had notes on several sources from years back, but of course now that it's time
to actually shop, I seem to have misplaced them.

Religious messages are OT here by

Hi Brandon:
I understand how you feel and I don't like this sort of thing either,
especially in technical forums. I'm sure the sender thinks something great
has been accomplished. Nothing was, and he or she is misguided. The real way
to help others is to do something on a personal level - such as...

Passat rear brake trouble by
[email protected]
Hello people,
I took my 2003 VW Passat wagon in for its 20,000 mile service
maintenance yesterday. The mechanic observed that the rear brake
rotors were warped and replaced them. VW covered the cost f
replacement as a "one time warranty action".
I am perplexed as to why the rotors warped. I...

96 Golf muffler question by
Raymond Cruz
The connecting pipe between front and rear muffler broke on my 96 Golf and
both mufflers appear to be at the end of their life. The replacement looks
simple if I can separate the front muffler from the long pipe that leads to
the cat. The joint that I need to take apart has a flat clamp that...

'94 Seat Ibiza question by
bruce
I'm visiting my brother-in-law in Israel. He has a '94 Seat Ibiza,
which has just one issue that he'd like to resolve. I'm the car guy of
the crowd. I'm quite familiar with US SPEC VW's with 1.8's and various
forms of injection, but don't know much about what's in this car. The
motor is a 1.6...

Engine flush worth it? by
Juey Ong
When I bring my 98 Passat Wagon in for service, the dealer tries to sell
me an "Engline Flush". Best I can tell from the literature is that it
uses some 3M product that's supposed to flush out "gunk" from the engine.
Question is: is it worth the US$65 or so they're charging and how often
is an...

Hissing Sound From Bottom of Pistons by
Kent
I'm in the process of replacing the timing belt, tensioner, and all the oil
seals on the front of my engine. In the process, I have removed the oil pan.
Tonight while working under the car, I turned the crank slightly using a
wrench. When I do this, I hear a hissing sound that sounds like air...
