key fob not working 2001 Jetta GLS by
[email protected]
Hi,
Our 2001 Jetta GLS has two key fobs. One works properly, the other
only works if you stand in front of the drivers door and hold it in
front of the window. The red transmitter light on the fob comes on
anywhere you are, you don't have to be near the car.
Batteries are new.
This just started...

VR6 Engine Stalls, then won't restart for an hour? by
Donald Baxter
I'm stumped, and my mechanic is stumped.
My '96 Passat VR6 will stall at idle, then will not restart for at least an
hour. After that time it cranks right up like nothing was ever wrong. We
do know that when it will not start there is no spark from the coil pack to
the plugs.
We repaced the...

Error P1582 in 2000 Golf 2.0 L by
Golf Girl
I read in past threads about the P1582 error code referring to "Idle
out of range".
The car has been running fine. No noticeable changes. No stalling in
idle with or without the AC on. The dealer of course wants a lot of
money to investigate and likely fix the error source. Not being "car
saavy"...

03 Passat battery question - and ranting by
Peter Orban
Hi Everyone,
What does the car, an 03 Passat, V6 engine, 5spm, forget if you take out
the battery?
I usually do not drive the car during the winter, and would like to take
out the battery next year. I understand that the following need to be
reprogrammed:
- the radio, I understand it picks up the...

Best car seat(s) for Jetta Wagon by
Craig Faison
Hi again,
So kidlet #2 is on the way. Currently, our daughter sits in a forward
facing 'all in one' seat (still in the ff facing mode, not booster mode
yet) in the center position. This works out fine, since she can stretch
her feet into the empty space between the two front seats while we...

Polo exhaust rattle by
rich
Hi,
For a while now my polo has been making an annoying rattle sound when
the engine is running at around 2000rpm. I have found the noise to
becoming from the exhaust rattling against the sump. I've checked the
exhaust mounts and they seem fine? Is it possible the engine needs
tuning?
Thanks in...

Advice for plans for Golf MK2 rebuild by
[email protected]
Hi
I own a Golf MK2 Cl (1.3l) 1992 with 275,000km on the clock. I now have
a 2nd car, so I'd like to start rebuilding the Golf.
I'm planning on replacing/fixing the engine. The first decision I need
to get out of the way is: carburetors or fuel injection? The car
currently has carburetors. I have...

key fob problem by
[email protected]
Hi,
We have 2001 Jetta GLS, 2.0l with almost 90k miles on it. One of the
two key fobs no longer works properly. You have to stand in front of
the drivers door and move it near the window and then it works. The
other key fob still works properly. This started to happen so I
replaced batteries...

I just replaced the transmission in this car and also put in a new starter.
I replaced the old starter that was also new, as it would not turn over or
even make a clicking noise. I now have the same problem again. Here's what I
have: Good grounding, good battery, lot's of voltage at the battery...

’86 Vanagon won’t start by
Skidz
I’ve got a weird problem with my van. It’s happened twice so far. It
just refuses to start (no spark). I had this happen two weeks ago. I
let it sit overnight ’cause I didn’t have time to have it towed. The
next day, it started on the first crank. Same thing happened
yesterday, except I haven’t...

passat B4 heater box by
starburst
Hi all-
THe heater/AC in my 96 passat wagon isn't what it ought to be. It gently
blows warm air on us when in the off position, and the AC never gets
really cold in the summer, though the refrigerant pressure is fine. It's
been spitting pieces of foam at me for a year, so I'm figuring I need...

Computer question by
Mike Robinson
I have a 97 Golf CL 1.8 manual and I need a new computer. The VW mechanic
tracked the problem I am having down to a faulty computer. I found one on
ebay for a 98 golf, 1.8, manual and was wondering if this would do, and
could i just plug and play with it?

Brake fluid question by
Mike Oxbig
I have a 2003 Jetta TDI with 40000 miles, the manual says to change the
brake fluid every two years regardless of mileage. Is this really necessary
or is there mileage amount it should be changed at? thanks

'02 Jetta Wagon roof racks by
Craig Faison
OK, call me a cheapskate, but $190 for crossbars (from VW) for the factory
side rails seems high. A quick look shows Yakima and Thule to be only
marginally cheaper.
Any other alternatives?
thanks,
Craig

Rear Bearing Installation by
Kent
I'm at it again. I'm changing the rear bearings on my '87 VW GTI. Any tips
on the best way to press the inner bearing race into the rotors in the
absence of a hydraulic press and the right size press tool? I usually use a
socket with a bolt/washer/nut in these situations, but I'm having...

Airbags in dash? by
starburst
On this heater box job in my B4 Passat, do I need to worry about the
airbags going off on me while I'm taking the dash out? Do I need to
disable them somehow first, like with vag-com?
Thanks again - Chris
