"Upgrading" horn by
Mel P.
I want to put a more 'beefer' horn on my Bug, maybe something from a
domestic car. Has anyone done this? Would I need to use a relay.
I'm tired of the 'meek' horn sound.

Volkswagen GTI creates own buzz
The personality of the GTI hasn't changed in more than a decade of
running America's back roads. It continues to be one of the most value
laden, fun to drive and capable sporty coupes on the market.

Volkswagen vindicated by its new Rabbit
When practically everybody in the car business abandoned hatchbacks as
if they were infected with some sort of bird flu, Volkswagen stubbornly
stuck to the design with its Golf.

"Winterizing" - to-do list? by
[email protected]
I'm getting ready to take my 73 super off the road for the winter
(because Northeast winters are icky). Does anyone have any standard
procedures for doing so? In particular:
1. Gas - drain or leave in?
2. Oil - change, drain, or leave in?
3. Tires - leave on, jack up, or take off?
Any other...

'61 Engine Removal Problem by
[email protected]
We're taking the engine out of this beetle. We were able to remove
okay 3 - 17mm nuts holding the engine on. We took the nuts from the 2
bottom bolts and the upper right(passenger side) bolt. Our problem is
the top left (driver side) bolt. On the back side the bolt is not
fastened by a hex...

'62 Type 1 Winter Project: Bigger Engine (I think) by
bz
I have: '62 RHD Beetle, stock 40 HP. Simply underpowered in this killer
freeway world. Actually a little dangerous-!
I want: a commuter that can cruise a bit faster, maybe an occasional
burst to 70 mph. Disk brakes on front and dual master cylinder. Stock
looking exhaust. 12 volt.
I...

'63 bug - stock tire question by
Dane Tyler
Hi folks,
I know this has been discussed at length before, but I just want to be
sure before I put the tires on my '63, with the original wheels.
Is it best to go with:
1) Radials with tubes,
2) Radials without tubes,
3) Bias-belted without tubes.

'64 'ragtop' dilemma by
[email protected]
Hey everyone, its been years since I have posted but I am back into my
VW hobby. Having had a '68 and a '63 bug I have ventured into the world
of ragtops. I recently purchased an early '64 ragtop. Car is in great
shape but when I was sold the car I was told the ragtop was missing the
rollers and...

'64 chassis and '72 Body compatible? by
arking88
Hi Everyone,
I posted this question on another news group and was told to put it
here. I have a good '64 chassis and a friend has a '72 Body that we'd
like to put together. What are the modifications, if any, that are
required to make this union complete? I'm assuming at the moment that
the...

'65 bug... defective choke or heater element? by
[email protected]
Hey everyone, i posted here earlier about my run-on problems. Many
thanks to everyone who replied, but nothing worked out for me. So i've
got a new idea. I think that my engine diesels/runs on so badly after
i shut it off is because the RPM is too high. I set the idle RPM and
mixture properly...

'66 Beetle turn signal switch by
Richard Couch
I’m having trouble with turn signal switches on my ’66 Beetle. I say
“switches” because I’ve gone through three of them so far. The mounting
screws come loose, and I’ve wound up stripping them in my attempts to
tighten the mounting screw while maintaining the 1-2mm clearance called
for in the...

'66 Bug/Proper manner to lower rear transaxles 2". by
Rick Bass
Is there a safe and proper way to lower a '66 transaxle? I've lowered
the front tube axle 2" with the torsion bar level system, bought from
Obsolete Parts. Would like the rear to have the same profile.
Thank you.

'67 Beetle: Correct Tire Size by
Buick8
Hi, I found a pretty good '67 VW and need new tires. It has 5.60X15
now. I see about three common sizes of radials: 165X15, 155X15, and
145X15. Which is closest to my tire size? I like the original look of
the 5.60s and don't want tires which look too big (diameter and/or
section) but can't afford...

'67 Bonnet won't open by
Tom Lacombe
My son just bought a '67 Bug, and the seller couldn't open the bonnet.
He said it would take two people to open it as the cable or locking
mechanism was not adjusted properly. One person was to pull the knob
on the dash while another lifted on the bonnet handle. The seller
pulled on the knob until...

'67 VW Crusing Speed by
ilaab
I will be going on a small trip for me but a seemingly long trip for my VW.
It has a single port 1600, appearing to be all stock. I have aftermarket
chrome half moons but the tires are just a little wider than stock. I also
don't have a tach and other than me, I will have about 100 lbs of...
