Tach redline by
goodnigh
My '71 Grande with 351C 4V (M-code) has an 8000 RPM
tach with no redline. What is the theoretical redline or should I
drive it until the lifters float?
Also, were is max torque and HP?
Thanks

Center console clock by
goodnigh
Bought a center console on eBay from '71 Mach 1 that has
a non-working clock. Mustang Monthly had an article dated
January 2003 page 26 describing how to repair this clock.
Is there a way to retrieve past articles online?

My car currently has P235/60 R14's. Hard to find.
What would be the closest equivalent size
on the door sticker; E78-14 or E70-14?
Thanks

70's tech by
goodnigh
There was show called Modern Marvels last night that dealt
with tech wonders from the 70's. One segment covered muscle
cars. I only remember hearing the word Mustang once. The show
mostly featured the TransAm. I know the 70's weren't the best years
for Mustangs, but there were plenty of fast...

Front shocks recommendation by
goodnigh
Want to replace the front shocks on my '71 Grande M-code.
Would stock shocks fit the bill or should I spring for Koni
or Bilstein? The car is a daily driver with occasional trips
to the mountains were I push the car a bit :)

Clutch issue by
goodnigh
Will be installing a CenterForce II in my '71 M-code.
CenterForce says to always resurface the flywheel.
Some people tell me to never resurface the flywheel
as it makes it thinner and more prone to warp.
Or should it just be replaced?
The clutch, bearing and disc cost just under $330 :)

Intake manifold torque settings by
goodnigh
Any advice on the intake manifold torque settings for a 351C 4V
with an Edelbrock 351 4V LB Performer?
The original cast iron settings were 23 - 25 for 5/16 bolts
and 28 - 32 for 3/8 bolts.
My mechanic, from whom I bought the car and installed the
Edelbrock, said 18 Ft-Lb was plenty. An email...

Question cam duration by
goodnigh
Want to buy a carb for my '71 M-code.
What is the cam duration for a stock 315C 4V?
I have a factory shop manual in front of me with
pages full of numbers. Where do I look for the cam
duration @ 0.050? It should be up to 240 for a 650
Demon.

Proper water level by
goodnigh
What should the water level be in a cold radiator?
My 351C 4V in a '71 Grande radiator's water level
is about six inches below the filler when the engine is cold.
The car has never overheated and typically runs
in the lower 1/3 of the temperature gauge.

Question: Timed vacuum port by
goodnigh
What is the purpose of a timed carb vacuum port?
My Carter 9637 SA AFB has three vacuum ports
in front at base of carb. The middle one goes to the
PCV valve, the right one (from front of engine) is
at full vacuum and is plugged. The left one is connected
to a TVS that has control over vacuum...

Question about timing by
goodnigh
My 351C 4V has a suggested timing of 6B.
This Cleveland has had the following mods.
Carter AFB 9637 SA
Edelbrock Performer LB 351 4V manifold
MSD Blaster II 8202
The points have been replaced with electronic ignition.
Question is, does the original 6B still apply.
We are looking for performance...

Carpet for '71 by
goodnigh
The J.C. Whitney catalogue lists carpeting for my '71 Grande.
The choices are Mach1(69-73), Mustang(64-70), Ranchero(60-71)
and Torino(68-71).
What car from the list is closest to a '71 Grande?
Thanks

Removing old grommet by
goodnigh
There is a rubber grommet through which an elbow
passes on top of the valve cover. The elbow then
connects via hose to the air cleaner. I want to replace
the stock air cleaner and place a breather in the valve cover.
The problem being the old grommet is very hard and not
removable without a...

Self adjust rear brakes by

My '71 Grande probably has self adjusting rear drum brakes.
Self adjusting means applying the brakes while going in reverse
if I remember correctly. How fast in reverse and do you ease
on the brakes or lock them up.

What is the firing order for a 351C.

PCV valve by
goodnigh
Have purchased a "proper" oil filler cap for my '71 M-code.
The one on now is a flat design with a PCV valve stuck in
the hole in the center of the cap. The new one is a tall design
with a right angle connector mounted on top. Both are twist
on, of course. The problem being, there does not seem...
