2000 Passat V6 2.8L timing belt and water pump by
Tim Taylor
The water pump just went out on my Passat at about 80K miles. So I've dived
in and am replacing it. Also replacing the timing belt, tensioner, and
relay roller while I'm in there. Also serpentine drive belt and all coolant
hoses. Is there anything else I should be replacing while I'm at...

100W headlight bulbs in B5 Passat? by
K Bourke
Anyone have experience upgrading their headlight bulbs to 100W (or
higher...) ? Have a brace of 2005 Passats, and have been less than
impressed with the light thrown forward, often over-running it at 110km/hr
out in the (dark) country.....
Reassurance that wiring/plastic headlight housings can...

86 Scirocco 16v won't start by
[email protected]
I just picked up an '86 Scirocco 16v. A few weeks ago it would start
with a little luck, now it just turns over but won't catch. If I let
it sit a day or so it will run for a few seconds on the first try,
then stall and not catch again.
The only thing that happened in between was I took apart...

2000 Passat V6 2.8L oil leak by
Tim Taylor
Ever since I've had this car, it's leaked oil near the oil filter. I've
always used NAPA gold filters. After reading on here, I've ordered a MANN
filter to see if that solves the problem. Can anyone suggest another cause,
other than a poor seal at the filter gasket?
Do you have to put the...

2000 Passat V6 coolant by
Tim Taylor
Along with the water pump change, I'm replacing the coolant. Of course, VW
dealership told me I should buy their red coolant because it's the best. Is
there any reason I cant just get brand name red stuff from my auto parts
store and use it?

Need a sanity check -1.8T sludge - time to give up? by
[email protected]
I know this topic has been beaten into the ground. I don't need to
know what the problem is, or what causes it, or how to prevent it. My
car already has it. I spent $1200 not even a year ago because oil
starvation had necessitated replacement of my main bearings. Despite
using only synthetic...

Coolant issue with 1986 Golf Diesel by
86GolfDiesel
After driving about 100 miles, I stopped in town for dinner. When I
drove home I turned on the heat and it never warmed up. Thinking it
might be the coolant, the red indicator light never came on. The
temperature needle was to the right. When I arrived home, it appeared
steam was coming out of the...

2005 VW Jetta Terminal Block Failure by
Ed White[_2_]
Car is a 2005 4 cylinder Jetta. The terminal block that is located over the
battery failed. The stud used to secure the lead from the alternator to the
terminal block loosened. Eventually the terminal over-heated and the stud
completely separated from the terminal block. As a temporary fix we...

03 Jetta MIL light code P0103 ? by
Earle
2003 Jetta 1.8T. I have a recurring MIL light with code P0103 (O2 sensor
circuit malfunction circuit 1 sensor 1). Does this mean I need an oxygen
sensor or could there be another problem. Light comes back on shortly after
resetting.
Thanks

91 Jetta cruise control... by
[email protected]
... on my 91 Jetta Diesel (440,000 km and running great) all of a
sudden the cruise control does not work anymore. It has been extremely
accurate until it stopped.
The rubber diaphragm is in good shape but wonder if there are any
electrical components that may be the culprit.
Another project is...

? 5W-30 instead of 5W-40 ? by
Lanning
2006 GTI (2.0 turbo)
I found that the VW dealer put in 5w-30 instead of 5w-40 today at my third
oil change. I told him the manual says the oil must be 5w-40, but he was
unconcerned.
The receipt says he used Castrol SLX Professional OE 5W-30. I bought a quart
of the same from that dealer, and...

Golf won't go into reverse!!! by

I'm new to this group and just wanted to find out something about my
VW golf TD (P reg, 1996) which is bugging me; it does not seem to want
to engage in reverse gear.
it is a normal manual car and i put it in where 'reverse' normally is
(as i have done for the past 2 years of owning it) and...

2.0L Jetta Problems after sitting for 2 years by
Don[_6_]
Hi fellow VW afficianados,
I have a '97 Jetta A3 2.0L that has been sitting for 2 years. Put in a new
battery and it cranked up fine. Tried to catch but wouldn't. Seemed fuel
strarved.
Removed air intake and choked it by covering up. Finally got it to catch.
Replaced air intake and revved up...

Passat Electric fan by
Frank
I have a 2001 V6 4Motion Passat with 55K miles. Lately the auxillary
fan keep blowing the 40A fuse. The fan runs fine at high speed for a
few minutes before blowing the fuse. It seems that without the fan the
only thing that I notice is that the A/C output is not the greatest,
at highway speeds it...
