chevy ran HOT past the gauge by
Phil
My Chevy Blazer (Vortec 4.3) ran hotter than hell last week , so hot, the
temp sensor melted, twice until I could take care of the problem.. I did
some repairs and its running to spec now, but I am afraid I may have done
other damage. Yeah, it knocked like crazy and I got it shut down and I...

Windshield wiper not working by
Ulf
My drivers side windshield wiper stopped working today. Being in a hurry
I didn't bother removing all the snow and ice from the windshield before
driving away, and then when I tried using the wipers only the one on the
passenger side worked. After stopping I realized the one on the drivers
side was...

blazer electrical problem by
[email protected]
I have a 1985 Chevy Blazer. The problem is with the gauges on the dash.
They work fine for a while and then go nuts-- shut down, move around,
etc. It affects the oil, amp, fuel, and water temp gauges, as well as
the signal indicators and radio (basically everything on the dash).
Most of the time...

File or replace plugs? by
Leroy Mowry
My service manual says to replace plugs if the electrodes are
rounded. Instead, I filed them down with a diamond disc and
they're as good as new. I also filed down the platinum electrode
spark plugs which seems to make no visible difference. What is the
difference between a filed down electrode and...

Electronic fuel pump - donor car ? by
Riscyrich
Anyone know of a uk car the I'm likely to find in the scrap yard that
will yield an inline electronic fuel pump that's easy to get to. I
need one for a project I'm working on, one that's good for about
150bhp or there abouts.
Cheers

Brown color of Automatic Transmission Fluid by
Lawrence Glickman
I have a slight problem, dilemma.
I checked my fluid level today on my auto tranny and it looked a
little brown to me, not the pink/red it was when I put it in.
Since I wasn't sure, I put some on a paper towel, and then next to it
a drop or two of New out-of the bottle ATF. Sure enough, the...

2000 Contour miss and Check Engine by
Craig Williams
A little puzzled by this one. A miss problem that I thought I had fixed
came back.
Last summer our 2000 Contour Sport V6 (2.5L, 5-speed, 60K miles) developed
a miss with an intermittent Check Engine Light. I took it to the local
AutoZone and had the codes read, and it was a misfire in cylinder...

Civic problem solved! by
Ropert's Aloha
Well I replaced the main relay and ignition switch and it still died out
after a few minutes of driving. When it cooled off there was spark again and
it would start and run until it got hot again. So I put in a new igniter
from Napa. That seems to have cured the problem. At least for now! I...

is $65/hr reasonable labor rate? (d) by
[email protected]
I called a local independent mechanic and asked him how much
labor he'd charge for working on the master brake cylinder and
he told me it'd be $65 an hour.
Is that a reasonable rate or is it too much? I don't really trust the
auto repair franchises like Midas even though there are about 3 of...

Help diagnose starting problem by

My daughter and son-in-law have a 92 Olds Cutlass Cierra with the 3300
V6 engine, auto trans, and a/c.
The other day they were driving along, and the engine just quit. While
they were still rolling, they put the trans in neutral and tried to
start it. The engine turned over but would not...

Brown Transmission Fluid Question by
Tommy Taylor
My Toyota Tacoma Prerunner 4 Cylinder has 54K. I've noticed no performance
or transmission problems. When I checked the transmission fluid it was brown
with no burned smell. Without doing the pan, I drained it and refilled. I
drove it 20 minutes and rechecked it. It was still somewhat brown, so...

torque wrench calibration by
[email protected]
I bought a 3/8's great neck torgue wrench at autozone for $19.99. It
has a range from 120 to 960 Inch-pounds, and is also calibrated in
Meter-kilograms. It is a very gentle click torque wrench.
I had never used a torque wrench before, and thought surely it was
not accurate. I barely pulled on...

Creaky suspension by
B.B.
A couple of days ago my front left corner began to creak and squeak.
Quite a lot, actually. It's noisy both when bouncing the corner of the
car and when steering side-to-side, so I figure a ball joint of some
sort.
So, here's the question: is this merely noise, or is it (I'm afraid)
a symptom of a...

Blow-off Valve by
omirix
The sound of the blow-off valve, when you let off the gas after the
turbo is spooled, is that sound affected by the type of turbo, spool
rpms, or the blow-off valve?
Thankyou.
