Service Action by Stan Dupp[_1_]
Got a letter today from VWoA about replacing the Crankcase Breather Hose on my 02 Passat 1.8T. It says I have up to 100,000 miles or ten years before the Service Action expires. My question is should I be concerned about this and get it replaced or just wait till it's necessary. My mechanic...

Strong Vapour Pressure in Gas Tank? by Geoff Glave
Hey Everyone, I've got an '89 VW Cabriolet. Over the past few months, when it's been warm and I've been driving for a while there's been a strong scent of gas back by the tank. Of course it's never reproducible at the mechanic. Also of late, when I take the gas cap off there has been a strong...

92 Jetta 1.8l stumbles under load by Lamprey
Hi there. Over the last couple of weeks, my 1992 Jetta (1.8 gas w/AC, ~235,000 kms) has developed a major stumbling on acceleration. It idles and cruises just fine, and in neutral I can bring the RPM up to any point and hold it steady, but under load (accelerating, going up slopes, etc) it surges...

Odd noise by [email protected]
Hi, 2001 Jetta, GLS, automatic, 2.0l. 87,000 miles. When coming to a moderate braking, there is a noise similar to the "wheel of fortune" wheel. It occurs at about from 35 mph down to 5 mph as I'm braking. If I brake gently, there is no noise. The noise appears to come from the left front but...

'89 Jetta brake line Q... by Darryl
I was just speaking with a dude at the parts counter at VW who gave up the brake line lengths: 535, 1290, 2350 and 2440 mm for front ds, ps, rear ds, ps respectively. He also told me 4.75 x 0.7 but didn't know what it meant. 4.75 mm ID and 0.7 mm wall? Anyone know size of the brake line...

Replacing Wheel Bearings by Bryan K. Walton
I need to replace the front wheel bearings on my '84 Rabbit. Both wheels have some play in them when I wiggle them back and forth, and I hear this high-pitched hum on the passenger side when driving down the road. I've been reading the John Muir Rabbit book and it is instructing me to buy new...

Touareg tires by [email protected]
I have a 2005 Touareg V8 with Continental 275/45/R19 108Y tires. I banged up the passenger tire by hitting a curb. Took a chunk out of the tire. I need to replace this one tire. However, a dealer is saying that I have to replace all 4 tires to keep them in balance or something. There are only 10k...

2001 Jetta VR6 Dashboard Indicator Lights question by [email protected]
My best friend recently bought a used 2001 Jetta VR6 from an auto auction and the car did not come with an owner's manual. Within the last week she's had an indicator light on on her dash. Neither of us know what the idiot light is on for, could someone here tell us what the light that looks like...

Auto transmission won't shift into overdrive when hot by [email protected]
I own a '97 vw golf 2.0L. When driving on the hiway, I recently noticed that the tranny seems like it isn't shifting into od. After about 15 minutes, I'll be going 60 mph and the tach reads 3000 rpm (too high) and about 3700 rpm for 70 mph. As you can see, the high revs get worse as I go faster. I...

89 Jetta heater core by Simplstupd
I posted earlier about a possible open recall on my Jetta's heater core. The dealer shows no open recalls. So I'm looking to replace it myself. I have Alldata, but am looking for some been-there-done-that advice. Any tricks to making this a smooth job? Does the A/C absolutely have to...

'98 Jetta link errors by locofitter
My step daughter's '98 Jetta failed to start after a short trip of a few blocks. I had her dad help troubleshoot and he just about started an electrical fire. I bought a scanner and got "Link Error". I ran the battery down putzing with it and put it on a charger. Came back a couple days later...

94 golf rough idle questions by Jeremy[_4_]
Hi all, A few more questions surrounding my VW Golf, that I've been meaning to bring here for a month or so but haven't yet... until now! :) I don't know too much about the history of the car, have only owned it since March, and it currently sits at around 300,050 kms (or, according to the...
