02 Passat 1.8t water in engine during heavy rain by [email protected]
Have any ideas for me? Recently during heavy rains my '02 Passat 1.8T gets water in the crank case. When I start the car it produces a lot of steam from the exhaust and will not run properly. This is the second time in the last 3 months that this has happened. The first time the dealer mechanics...

A2 GTI fuelsystem woes -- Distributor, Cold Start Valve? by Nathan
Hello folks, I have an '85 GTI with an '87 16v engine that won't start. It sat for a year or more and had the old gas pumped through the system, although now I've drained it and replaced it with clean gas + fuel system cleaner. While the problem really could be anything, there are two...

How to clean headlight lenses? by Ed Regal
Can anyone recommend or point me to a way to polish up the plastic headlight lenses on a 96 GL Passat? Gave it to my son a couple of days ago and when we were coming out of the insurance office noticed that the lenses were a faded yellow and you could not even see through them. Is it possible...

'01 Passat Tie rod end boots by Chuck Tribolet
The rubber boots on my GF's ;01 Passat wagon are torn. The dealer's answer is to replace the whole tie rod end (which of course implies a partial realignment) when all that's bad is the boot. Is there any source for just the boot? Chuck Tribolet

Need help with purchase decision - 1999 VW Golf by Dennis[_5_]
Hello everyone, I apologize in advance for this newbie question I am helping a single mother (4 kids!) purchase a car for her oldest child, who is 18. Finances are VERY tight and she's pretty much limited to about $4,000 or less. She has found a 1999 VW Golf with 128,000 miles on it. It's...

96 Golf body integrity by Henry Markov
There is a transverse stiffener or brace on the underside of the 96 Golf at about the point where the middle muffler joins the long connecter pipe leading to the cat. This brace is held by 4 threaded studs and nuts. How necessary is this brace to body integrity? How upset should I be that I...

VW Golf III with loss of power especially at low RPM by Klaus Kragelund
Hi I have a VW Golf III 1.8 from 1995. My problem is that it suddenly looses power with a very fast jerk and immedeately thereafter resumes power. The problem is worst at low RPM (2000) and it can be solved by giving full pedal. The mechanic has replaced spark plugs, cables, rotor, ignition coil...

Why Online Games are So Fun by [email protected]
After working hard for my money, the least I could do is to have some online fun. That's what motivates me to keep making money. I mean supporting welfare parasites and fraudulent government's SSN program is not exactly motivational. I'd rather deal with more trustworthy and attractive...

R32 problems by Norman Billingham
I have a brand new Golf R32 bought in July, here in the UK. Since I got it, it has now spent more time in the dealers' workshop than in my garage and I've done more miles in loan cars than in my own. The problem is a random electronic failure which sometimes causes the immobiliser to refuse to...

'01 GOLF TDI: Timing Belt...do I really need to change it? by [email protected]
I have an '01 Golf TDI with 302,000km on it....never going back to gas engines! Its due for its 3rd timing belt change. Do I really need to do this? The last 2 times I changed it, here was hardly any wear on it at all. I plan on keeping the car another 100,000km. Your thoughts are apreciated.
