floor pan quality by Alex
Im going to be seperating the body and pan this weekend, my floors seem to be in pretty decent shape minus some minor rust holes, not very large. These are still the original floor pans. Should I replace them completely or should I just patch these up? What is the quality of the aftermarket...

`71 Ghia Convertible Restoration by Alex Gilblom
Hi All, I read here all the time both for VW tips and for the ongoing comedy. I'm very greatful for the nuggets of wisdom I've already received, and I'm sure I'll be coming back with more questions, but I wondered if there's anything that strikes anyone about starting a `71 Ghia restoration that...

69 Beetle Not Cranking by Alex Gilblom
Hi, I was running my Bug this morning while installing a CD player, and after a few hours doing other things, I came back and the starter motor just won't even click. The lights in the speedo come on, and the radio comes on, but the starter motor is silent. Tried jump starting with my other car,...

update on `71 ghia restoration - pics by Alex Gilblom
Hi, So, I got the car up on homemade blocks and have the engine about 80% ready to be pulled. After getting a look under the car, I'm surprised to find the pans in MUCH worse condition than I previously assumed. I'm thinking of dropping the engine to work on myself and giving the body to a shop to...

Pistons frozen to cylinders in a 1600dp by Alex Gilblom
Hi, Working on that `71 Ghia, I have the engine torn down, but pistons 1 and 3 are rusted/frozen to their respective cylinders. Any reccommended methods for working them loose? I tried the rubber mallet on the fins but it didn't make them budge. Thanks. -Alex

Kids and VW's... by Allanw
Groan... I have 2 little boys: Solomon, 2.5 years and Van, 3 months. Obviously, Van is pretty easy going on the cars, but Solomon has been known to wreak a bit of havoc.... usually just easy things, like "helping" fix the car by putting bolts thought the holes in the wheels, or inside the...

4 stud Beetle wheel dimensions by Allanw
Righteo, Just sorting out the brakes on my 72 1200 Euro, and realised that one rim is different to the rest. 3 and the (damaged) spare are 4.5Jx15, with ET34 offset, the other one is 4jx15 but I can't find the offset. I want 2 to replace the odd one and the spare, but not sure what they are...
