OT but only slightly: Craftsman Torque Measurement System - any good? by
Remco
I think my trusty torque wrench is getting a little too old and lost
some of its precision. Actually, I am more worried about its
repeatability, as it 'clicks' within plus and minus 15 percent
difference from one bolt to the other. If I knew it was just off by a
couple of units, you can keep that...

'61 Engine Removal Problem by
[email protected]
We're taking the engine out of this beetle. We were able to remove
okay 3 - 17mm nuts holding the engine on. We took the nuts from the 2
bottom bolts and the upper right(passenger side) bolt. Our problem is
the top left (driver side) bolt. On the back side the bolt is not
fastened by a hex...

Possibly found a very cheap paint stripper.. by
Remco
Not sure who here is on theSamba as well, so thought this is worth
repeating he
Purely by accident someone's wife on TheSamba stripped paint with this
"power dissolver" made by Dawn. The plus side is that there does not
seem to be much of a smell, takes very little quantity to do work,...

1600 DP driving me nuts... by
Bill
He all:
I have a 1600 DP that's a mystery to me. Engine runs fine but will not
hold a good idle (sometimes dies, etc.) & is running VERY rich at idle.
Stock carb (new, not flooding); new 009; new plug wires, good coil,
valves adjusted at 006. Here's the kicker: Checking the idle timing
with a...

Ball joints by

Everyone check your ball joints even if you think that they are ok. I had
the right lower one pop out yersterday when I had checked them just a week
before. Luckly I was only moving at about 10mph when it went. Heck I thought
that I had blown a tire by the way that it felt. This is the first time...

A couple of weeks ago, my old '74 Super Beetle decided she hadn't had
enough attention lately and caught fire at a traffic light.
Got the fire put out, got the car towed back, now all I have to do is
replace all of those wires and tubes in the engine compartment.
I'm trying to decide if I want to...

HI all.
Ha ha. Well I was painting some stuff on my bug with good ol' POR-15
yesterday and was unaware that a hole had formed in on of the rubber
gloves I was wearing. It was a messy job and the paint got all over my
gloves and in turn my hand without me knowing it. Didn't feel it
seeping in... ...
