E39 electronic erratic problem by
Bobino
Hi all,
I have a 98 540 (E39) and started to have strange behavior from the on board
electronics when I start the vehicle. 3 times out of 4 it starts fine, but
when it doesn't, it seems the initiation of electronic routine would not
work. The steering wheel does not go down, the radio won't work,...

How difficult to change thermostat in 94 525??? by
bobmct[_2_]
Hello all:
I am reasonably adept at mechanics and have performed routine
maintenance on a number of my vehicles over the years. However, for
my own prior 4 Bimmers I always used professional services.
Someone asked me to replace the thermostat in their 94 525 and I need
to know if its...

E36 convertible window by

Anyone done business with these folks? My 99 M3's window is shot, but
I can't justify buying the factory piece at $300+ when I've got 125k
miles on...

E36 Bad Climate Control? by
BobP
My 1999 M3 convertible's climate control has started acting up. The
display of temperatures set and fan speed will dim, then go out and it
will turn off the fan. It seems to also turn on the rear window
defogging fan. If I thump the dash next to it, that will sometimes
get it to work again (the...

Aftermarket seat heaters - 540i by
BobP
Ladies & Gents,
I have a 1999 M3 convertible that's currently in the shop getting a
new head gasket and needs some other work done as well. I'm mulling
trading her in and getting a low-mileage 2002 540i that is priced
pretty fairly. The only thing the car doesn't have is heated seats
and I've...

E39 / E60 Clutch sensitivity by
BobP
I've driven an E39 540i and an E60 545i and noticed that while the
clutch throw was fairly lengthy, the actual engagement zone was pretty
small, particularly on the E39. Is that just the nature of the beast
on these cars or did I bump into a couple funny ones? It's not a deal-
killer item, but is...

E36 M3 suspension options by
BobP
I have a 1999 E36 M3 convertible that desperately needs to have the
shocks/struts replaced. (125k miles on original stuff--they're
overdue, eh?)
I'm really not anxious to spend a ton of money on the suspension, just
want good quality components that will handle the gawdawful freeways
here well as...

S/W update on E60 - Nav. Improvement by
bobukcat
Just got the '45 back from the dealer for an oilchange and they upgraded the
s/w (I don't know if you can tell what version is installed) and so far have
noticed a BIG improvement to the Navigation system. There is a cool new view
called perspective which is harder to describe than I care to...

On a 1994 530i the check engine light comes on occasionally and goes out
when I rev the engine. What could cause this?

Mass air flow sensor by
Bob[_16_]
I have a 1994 530i with Check Engine lamp lit.
Replaced MAF with unit from junkyard, check engine lamp out nicely.
Just for one day. Then the engine, while idling at a stop, sort of
burped and the lamp came on.
Figuring I got a bad unit, I took the MAF back and got another. Check
engine lamp...

Is it safe to combine different oils of the same grade? by
Bob[_38_]
For example: if my motor had Titan GT1 5W/30 in it and for top-up I use,
let's say Castrol 5W/30 - would this be OK? Just wondering because I have
some spare oil of the same grade and don't want to go out and buy more oil
unless I really have to.
FWIW, both oils are classed as BMW long life...

Uneven tyre wear on F10 5 Series by
Bob[_59_]
After 2 years I go to get new tyres on the back because the inside of the
tyre is down to the limit, the fronts are also wearing on the outside edge,
so ask them to do a full tracking test. They have all the latest laser
stuff. The test has shown that one wheel is outside BMW specification for...

E32 Front Seat Parts by
Bob[_7_]
I parted out a set of front seats from an E32 so I could get the leather
for repair purposes and being a glutton for punishment I decided to take
all the electrical parts out of the seat frame including all motors,
boden cables and gearboxes.
If anyone is in need of some parts to repair their...
