Best way to replace CV boots and axles? by [email protected]
I really new to all this, but I was wondering what is the best way to get the beetle up enough to replace the cv boots and axles? Do I need to pull the engine to get at the transaxle?

actually OIL cooled by P.O.W.
the air cools the oil. ACVW's have a radiator .. for the oil. but, you knew that. -- when you believe the only tool you have is a hammer. problems tend to look like nails.

Gotta love German engineering... by Project Magnet #1
I pulled the engine on my '76 last night, so I could swap the transaxle. Yeah, I know I could have pulled 'em together, but working alone, i figured it'd be easier to handle separate. The trans came out this morning, quick and easy, and the replacement back in. The engine was next, after...

Is it true... by Veeduber
A couple of you have asked if it was true that I refused to work on this bus because I didn't like their music... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06SqLdcMoGE I don't know. I get a lot of calls & messages asking me to work on a particular bug or bus. I turn most of them down for one reason...

Mondays are fun by Veeduber
It started about a dozen years ago when I turned on the computer and found: 'When I shut off the engine there was white smoke coming from those slots on the side of my bus. Should I call the fire department or what?' The message had been posted some hours before. I never heard from the person...

No gas in fuel line, how to diagnose? by Andrew
Sorry, but I am back. This time I now have 4 VW's. The most recent is a 71 Autostick. A second stab at an autostick. It seems to run perfect, when pouring gas in the carb. I rebuilt the carb. I have a clear filter so I can if their is fuel in the line before the pump. I replaced fuel line sections....

Listen to how they say about a Beetle being a good investment and about resale. 1970's Buy a Volkswagen | Air Cooled VW's I'm sure they never could have truely known after 30+ years what true investment they would become. Mario Vintage Werks resto

Sluggish Starting by Mel P.[_2_]
My 77 FI Bug seems to have a hard time turning over, especially if it sits for a week or two. The starter is a few months old. The battery was charged fully. Any thoughts, is it a start issue, a voltage issue? tia, -- Mel P.

Battery Size by Mel P.[_2_]
Is there any benefits to a 'larger' size battery in a Bug, assuming it fits under the seat? Not just the physical size, but cranking amps, etc.

Oil bath cleaners on kadrons by anton[_1_]
Hi Guys, I am working on getting early bug aircleaners adapted to dual kadrons. There is somewhat big mismatch of the ID on filter and kadron throat. 2" id filter and 2.6" OD on the kadrons. From what I can see I will have to cut the bottom neck of the airfilter where clamp is welded and weld...

Oil again by Dennis[_4_]
I know everyone has their own opinions on oil but a while back we were warned about the new oils and the fact they do not have zinc in them anymore. I have read several articles on the problems we can have with old flat-tappet style engines with the new oils without zinc. I have used synthetics...
