To All:
There are quite a few of you subscribed to this Group. Many of you
are actually building engines! And running them. And filling the
neighborhood with expensive white smoke. Then writing to me.
Eventually, we get the problems ironed out, an interesting process for
the TWO of us.
I've...

Hard to find parts... aircooled.net.. what the *? by
John J[_3_]
Referring to a previous post in which I wrote that aircooled.net could
not provide carb float bowls for the kadrons (and variants) for over
four months, well I just got a confirmation from CP1.COM that they got
my order for the same this morning and _shipped it this afternoon_.
It remains to be...

Help? by
Bob Hoover
Hi guys,
Try and help me out here.
Most of you know I get a lot of mail. Surprisingly, a lot of that
mail comes WITHOUT a return address. If it's for a topic of common
interest I may answer it without referring to the asker... but a lot
of times the fellow (or gal) makes it clear that a...

CAM BEARING & CRANKCASE SEALING by
Bob Hoover
TO ALL ENGINE BUILDERS:
It is NOT 'string' it is SILK. More specifically, it is #50 THREAD,
although I have seen a German-born, factory-trained mechanic spinning
free a few STRANDS from silk embroidery thread. This method applies
ONLY to the crankcase's EXTERIOR parting flange. NOTHING is...

It's just a shame by
[email protected]
It's just a real shame that we have allowed a low-life scumbag like
Mario
to cause all this bickering and infighting amongst the decent folks
here.
I'm thinking we can figure out a way to all get along again.
But the little scumbag did send me an email.
Seems I might have offended him.

Start-up Wear by
Bob Hoover
In responding to another thread I mentioned 'start-up wear,' which got
me a querie as to what I was talking about.
See that oil light? Notice that when starting your engine it stays ON
until the oil pressure is high enough to turn it off? During that
period it means your engine is operating...

Question on brake pins by
Eddie
I was driving and all of a sudden, I hear a rattle coming from the right
rear. I took the drum off and the springs that hold the shoes to the
backing plate were sitting at the bottom. I have an extra set of pins,
springs and shoes for the front. Are the pins the same size for both
front and...

Beware BFY obsolete parts by
[email protected]
To anyone looking for VW parts on the net I do not recommend BFY
Obsolete Parts. I have ordered from them several times in the past for
my 63 and never had a problem, this time though was a pretty bad
experience. Placed an order back in September to rewire my 68, didnt
hear anything back for a week...

can anyone recommend a cross country car mover? by
Rev Turd Fredericks
In a few months I'm moving from Irvine California to Lexington Kentucky.
I was thinking of selling my bug, but decided that I would probably
regret it for the rest of my life so have decided to move it. Anyone
here had any experience with companies who perform car moves? I'm not
going to say...

Question for Bob Hoover and the rest of the VW gurus by
Leopold Stotch[_2_]
I'm about to start rebuilding my 1200cc motor. I've done a lot of
research, read a few books (including the Bentley Bible),and watched a
few engine rebuilding videos. There seems to be some difference of
opinion concerning the rear main seal. Some advocate applying glue on
the outer edge of...

Valve Spring Retainer Wear by
\Harry Smith\
Hello all,
Now that my '74 standard bug is no longer my daily driver I find
myself worrying about something that I noticed a while ago. The engine
is a Mexican 1600 with unknown mileage. I am embarassed to say it does
not have cooling flaps and the air seal isn't perfect either so I know
it's been...

I give up. Is there a reputable VW shop in St Louis... by
barnhart_pinball[_3_]
I've spent enough time on my daughter's 72 SB. I rebuilt the engine and
carb, got it put in place. Adjusted the valves (thanks for the info, mine
were WAY off) and carb.
Since then, I've had idling issues (comes and goes) a rattle that increases
with RPM (sounds like it's coming from around...
