vw type 1 oil temp sensor by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have a single port single oil pressure relieve valve engine and was
wondering if it's OK to install oil temperature sensor in the relieve
valve plug. From what I heard this sensor is usually installed in
place of plug of the secondary valve not the one by the oil pump.
Will this affect my...

identifying bug found in creek by
[email protected]
Someone dumped a bug in a local creek and we're trying to determine
ownership.
Is there any way to translate serial number to VIN number?
The VIN plate by the windshield is gone, but I found 2 identification
marks:
1) Under the front hood, right above "made in western germany" plate,
there is a...

1970 Iginition Switch Help needed by
Al
I have a 1970 Beetle Convetible. On occasion, when I turn the key to
"start" it doesn't engage the starter. If I try it again, it usually
works. Any insight? I assume that I need a new starter switch. As I
look in my Bentley, I don't see enough information to know what I'm up
against.
Any...

Oil Change by
Al
I changed the oil in my 1970 VW Convertible today. While that was
underway, my wife sent me this e-mail message. None of the events below
were part of my oil change. This is informational only. Really.

Trailering question by
Al
We have a small flatbed trailer and I plan to roll my 1970 convertible
up onto it and tow her behind my motorhome. Question: I think I can
tie the straps onto the front torsion bar, but where should I attach
straps in the back?
Thanks

Beetle to Ghia transplant? by
Al Adams
My son has a 1970 Karmann Ghia restoration project car that features the
infamous Autostick tranny. We have a totally rotten Beetle of the same year
with a manual gearbox.
Does anyone have any experience with transplanting the necessary manual
tranny guts to an Autostick vehicle? I have the...

My Bug was squished! Help me to avoid getting screwed! by
Al Gilson
Yesterday a moron in a Ford Taurus did a left turn across my lane right in
front of me. Needless to say, despite all of my best efforts, I smacked
into him at about 25mph. Damage? Yep. Left front fender, bonnet, left
front tire, rim and tire. The spooky part is that there is a slight
crinkle...

AvGas in a Bug? by
Al Gilson
I never thought I'd see the day. The aviation fuel I put in my Cessna
is now cheaper than the gas I buy for my 1970 Bug Convertible. I'm not
saying I would try it, but it is intriguing.
What would happen if a person was to run his 1600 single port on 100
octane leaded aviation gasoline?

VW Trends-Got my refund! by
Al Gilson
The check arrived in the mail yesterday. A full refund ($18.20 US) for
the remaining issues in my subscription. I did this by sending an e-mail
to the PrimeMedia folks and it worked. (Of course, I'll let you know if
the check clears.)

The Ins. Co. wants to total my Bug! by

Does anyone have any experience with their Bug getting squished by a
dweeb. His insurance company wants to total out my 1970 Convertible.
They offered me an amount based on two comparables. I thought they were
low and sent them some of my research on Hemmings, Samba, AutoTrader and
others that...

Transmission year? by
Alan Nelson
IRS Ser # AH31371 38
I've read that the ser # tells exactly when it was manufactured. In this
case 31st of March 1971, 38th case made that day.
Sound about right?

New Year Off To Good Start by

I resolve this year to get a start on my new 1970 Baja project.
www.boatcop.com/baja.htm
It's off to a good one, since I just picked up a complete 1968 spindle to
spindle front beam w/ disc brakes to replace the rusted and butchered one on
the car. ($100.00)
I'm also going to pick up a 1963 body...
