Explorer Diesel? by Big Shoe
Has anyone heard whether Ford has plans to offer a diesel in the Explorer? I am talking about a modern type of diesel, not the farm tractor type usually installed in vehicles here. I have ridden in some in Europe and Australia where the noise and vibration was so low it was difficult to know it...

2002 Explorer codes? by Kristi
The "Service Engine Soon" light just came on in my 2002 Explorer XLS. Isn't there some way to make the actual code display by . . . oh, I don't know . . .. turning the key a certain number of times while it's turned off or something like that? I just know there is SOME WAY to do this. I'm...

OBD2 eader by Trefor
I'm thinking of buying one of these. Around £25 on ebay. I know nothing at all about them. Are the more expensive ones that connect to a PC more useful? I have a '99 ford explorer, (UK spec, V6), and get the Suspension warning light, only when towing my caravan, and only after about an hour. If I...

4wd hi/lo lights flashing by BillM
I've read a little about this problem before. 1998 Explorer XLT 4WD Both the 4WD HI and 4WD LO lights flash 5 times every few minutes. From what I'd read, the problem is usually either a poor connection to the speed sensor or the speed sensor itself. Apparantly there is a TSB out on it. I called...

Dashboard Paint Scuff - Help Please by Len Krauss
My '96 Explorer has a tan colored dashboard. While carting some supplies, I managed to get it scuffed in a few places on the air bag panel above the glove box, resulting in what appears to be a greyish vinyl background showing through. There are no gouges to speak of -- it looks like just...

Whining Chinese Fan Clutch on '91 by Ulysses
I just replaced my fan clutch on my '91 XLT (4.0 V6 EFI) with one that I got from Auto Zone's online store. It looks exactly like the OEM Ford part but it makes a loud whining noise when I accelerate. It says "Made in China." The description was "heavy duty for fast revving engines" or something...

Binding Steering by Robert Fazzio
I have a 1998 Explorer; V8; 107,000 miles. The steering binds up when trying to turn. Then it "releases" and turns normal. You can feel it binding up on something then it releases with a low clunk noise. The pump and rack have no signs of leakage. Any suggestions? Thanks Rob

Explorer 2002 XLT V8 - A/C Problem?? by wlwallick
Our car has the front and rear a/c units. The other day a solenoid in the left rear quarter panel started clicking. This is where the rear fan, etc. is located. It sounds like a very large clock ticking You can turn the rear unit on with either the front control or the rear control and the...

Front differential leak by Jonah
My 2001 XLT 4x4 has a slight drip from the front differential cover. I have 2 questions: Is a gasket required or can I use something like RTV or Form-a-Gasket? What's the correct fluid to use in the diff for refilling? Thanks for the help.

92 EB -Cruise Control Quandry by John Riggs
Guys, I am trying to figure out why my CC isn't working. The fuses are all good, the controls on the steering wheel check, power, everything. Still, it won't work. Ironically, the only thing that I did was leave it parked for 2 weeks while I was in Regina for a horse show, and when I got back, the...

'05 slow throttle by Richard Minami
Just wondering if anyone else has the same experience. It seems like the throttle response on our new Explorer is a little slow. My wife (the primary driver) noticed after we first bought it that it behaves kind of weird when you come up to a light and it turns green, so you press the accelerator...
