Polo Gearbox grumbling by
DC[_2_]
Our 97 manual (1600) polo has recently developed gearbox bearing noises -
the sort that you just know are going to go from "slight" to "we need to fit
a more powerful radio in this thing"
My independent mechanic thinks the car is toast - cost more to fix than its
worth, he pointed to another...

tonyw
Hi,
I've searched the discussions for VW and for autos in general with
no luck. Vehicle is a '90 Golf 8 valve gas engine. When doing a visual
inspection of the inside of the distributor cap and rotor, one of the
spring clips that holds the distributor cap on broke off. It was
pretty corroded to...

2009 Jetta TDI trailer wiring by
Fred[_15_]
How does one wire up a trailer light harness for a 2009 Jetta? The wiring
is really weird, each bulb operates like a dual filiment bulb but in
actuallity its a single filament bulb. They use pulse width modulation to
vary bulb brightness and to save wiring, brilliant but at the same time god...

1995 Jetta doesn't run in rain by
tombstone
Hello again!
My daughter's car will no longer start in the rain. If it's give some
time to dry out everything seems to rectify itself. The motor cranks
but doesn't start.
I think I recall reading about a problem with the ignition coils
cracking on this car. Is that correct?
Aside from...

it starts up, but it's orders-of-magnitude better than it was before.

Looks like the Jetta's all growed up! by
Bert Hyman
I had occassion to peer into the cargo compartment of an '09 Jetta wagon
this morning and it's actually deeper (measured from back of front seats
to rear of useable space) than my '02 Passat wagon by a few inches.
I wasn't able to measure the width or height of the cargo area, but it
looked...

89 Cabriolet by

I have an 89 Cabriolet, When I start the car in the morning, it starts
then dies. It takes several cranks, with the gas pedal at various
levels to get the car running. It will continue to stall until it
warms up. I recently replaced the thermal time switch. Initially it
fires right up then...

My slugish Vanagon problems, solved! by
george taylor
Ok we finally figured out the damn problems. Ok for starters I was slightly
low on trans fluid. I had checked it a few times, but I think I mad a
mistake while doing it, not having it running and it neutral (I am really a
air-cooled manual transmission guy). Once we got that sorted out it was...

Does anyone know what the Labor time is to Remove and replace the thermostat

What's this tic-toc from behind the dash? by
Bert Hyman
I have an '02 Passat wagon, 1.8T and AT.
A few weeks ago I noticed a muted "tic-toc" sound coming from behind the
dash, repeating at an interval of about 5 seconds or so.
I noticed it first on driving down the alley and navigating the local
streets. After a few minutes and on the freeway, I'd...

Broken valve, why? by
SFC
This is a 1.9 SDI engine. It was running on 3 cyl.and produced a lot of
smoke. I diagnosed a compression loss on cyl #4. Pulled the head and #4
piston was sitting lower than #1(?). Maybe a bad bearing shell or bend rod.
Pulled the oil pan and indeed a bend rod. Replaced the rod.
I then serviced...
