GM, Ford sales sag, competition zooms by 223rem
http://money.cnn.com/2005/04/01/news/fortune500/carsales.reut/index.htm GM and Ford blame high gas prices, but in fact vehicles like the Altima, the Titan, and the Hemi based Chryslers sell very well. Why can't Ford or GM face the fact that they are losing market share because they make boring...

Do HEMIs really work? by 223rem
I mean, are they more economical than regular V8s of same size? (My guess is that they're not providing any significant fuel savings, and that the added complexity will lead to lots of problems in the years to come).

Gear use on slick surfaces by 223rem
Is the following true? In rain (or snow) one should try to be in top gear (say, 5th), rather than in 4th, even if you strain the engine. The reason is that the vehicle is less sensitive to the gas pedal, and that makes loss of traction less likely.

Would you speed to get out of the way of a cop? by 223rem
Lets say you're in the left lane, passing vehicles in the right lane, and exceeding the speed limit by a moderate but significant amount, say, 10-15 mph. A cop car, travelling much faster than any 'civilian' vehicle, quickly approaches from the rear and starts tailgating you. Is it a good idea to...

Hey Scott, my radar detector did save my ass tonight by 223rem
Can you imaginge that in this town cops have nothing better to do at 1.30 am than troll the empty streets looking for speeders? I was doing 40 in a 30 when my radar detector went off, on the K band, where most false positives occur. However, the beeping was unlike the one caused by door openers,...

Driving a car registered to another: question. by 223rem
I'll be out of the country for 3 weeks, and my girfriend will drive my car (her car, due to poor maintance, is not safe enough for our very young son). The problem is that we're not married, and since the car is in my name, a cop pulling her over could suspect that she stole the car. It doesnt help...

Hey Brent: Chicago pig caught on tape beating up hottie Russian bartender by 223rem
Did you see the tape of the beating? What a douchebag. I have a weakness for cute Russian blondes. It turns out that when that douchebag cop was indicted, the Chicago PD harassed the media trying to get photos! Can you believe that "honest cops" would side with a psycho woman beater? And today...

Just witnessed an accident by 223rem
I was in a group of 4 vehicles approaching a light on a 55 mph, 4 lane divided state road. I was in the left lane. Several car lenghts In front of me was a van. To my right, a semi pulling a full sized open bed trailer. In front of the semi, a large Ryder moving truck (of the McVeigh kind). We were...

Which car gives the most bang for the buck? by 223rem
It has to be the Subaru STI. It has everything: power, handling, all-weather/bad terrain capability, backseat, trunk. And all that for a reasonable price.

Had fight with gfriend over LLB-ing by 223rem
My gf is a bit of an LLB. I got fed up with it and I told her to freaking move right if she's not passing anyone. She haughtingly replied that when driving in California (her home state) it is best to cruise in the left lane. I calmly explained to her why it is wrong to cruise in the left lane,...

What happens if you ignore speeding tickets? by 223rem
Friend of mine from Chicago tells me he has 2 old speeding tickets (got them in IL) he hasnt paid. I told him he can get arrested (handcuffed and taken to the police station) next time a cop pulls him over, but he doesnt believe it is an arrest kind of offense. Am I right, or is he? Thanks.

I sometimes am an asshole by 223rem
I sometimes do this when traffic is heavy enough: when coming upon a slow LLB SUV or minivan (I dont like SUVs or minivans), I move level with it on the right, and then match speed with it, preventing people from passing it on the right. I then sit back and enjoy the LLB moron being aggresively...

The dangers of DRLs by 223rem
Yesterday, in northern Michigan, was raining torrentially, and visibility was almost zero. Almost everyone was driving with their lights on, except for the GM cars, which had only their headlights (DRLs) on. Real helpful on the road in poor visibility conditions! Lots of GM cars have DRLs and...

Fair weather cops by 223rem
On SR37, on a particular stretch between Bloomington & Martinsville, the IN State Police is always hard at 'work' ticketing people for speeding. It is a beautiful, 4 lane highway, with a huge median, without any houses or buildings of any kind on either side. One can very safely do 80 mph there and...

The Rapid Demise Of the SUV by 223rem
John S. wrote: > > SUV's are not the only poor milage vehicle out there True. See the trend towards high horsepower (250 hp+) in almost all new non-luxury cars (from the V8 Impala to the Grand Prix to the new Passat and all the Hemi cars).
