89 Jetta heater core by
Simplstupd
I posted earlier about a possible open recall on my Jetta's heater core. The
dealer shows no open recalls. So I'm looking to replace it myself.
I have Alldata, but am looking for some been-there-done-that advice. Any
tricks to making this a smooth job? Does the A/C absolutely have to...

Temporary blowby? by
Jonny
I let the oil change interval go by too long. About a year, 6K miles.
Normally speaking the oil never gets black as can be, just dirty looking.
And, never lost a drop of oil.
Last oil change had maybe 1.5 quarts in the pan, plus the filter contents.
Oil was very black and thick. Lifters were...

Alfaman
I have a 2000 VW Golf GLS 2.0, with 111k mi. It has developed an
intersting problem. For a long while it had a rough idle when warm.
It was a sort of gentle chug-chug when you stopped at a light or
something. I just took it in for an oil change and now when I got it
back, it idles alright, but...

Long term Passat issues? by
D&LBusch
I'm at that funny stage when I'm considering trading my 2004 1.8 Passat.
44,000 miles 5 speed. I may buy a Hybrid. What are the long term costs of
keep the Passat? I've read that repairs as they age can be annoying and
expensive.
Thanks in advance.

Glow Plugs by
Rob Guenther
What are the symptoms of a blown glow plug in a TDI engine? (1999.5 Golf
TDI, 1.9L 90Hp) - Should I see the glow plug light coming on while driving,
or flashing? (does neither)
My glowing period in these really cold winter days is getting to be (seems
like) close to 20 seconds, and I leave the car...

'02 passat rear brake help by
tom misiak
Hi,
I have a gls wagon. After removing the caliper, I tried turning the
piston clockwise. After many turns with no results, I turned the piston
about a revolution counterclockwise. This, unfortunately, pushed the
piston out quite a bit more than where I started at. I then learned
about the...

Ted
My son drove my Golf into a ditch today. There was no real damage except
from the tow truck. His chain bent up a panel and he ripped off a plastic
shield under the engine.
There is a plastic part that attaches to the bottom the front bumper.
Another plastic part attaches to that plastic part and...

Older car insurance by
William J. Leary Jr.
A number of folks here own older VW's.
Some of us have paid over book value for hard to find ones in very good
condition, and then spent even more to restore them mechanically and
cosmetically.
But, when one of these is in an accident the insurance company goes by book
value or, if they're...
