1.8T: Slowly oscillating temp gauge by
Bert Hyman
2002 Passat GLS wagon, 1.8T, automatic.
Starting just this morning, the car warms up to the normal indicated
190F but from then on slowly drops to about 150F, slowly climbs back to
190F, and continues to do so, apparently unaffected by any external
conditions.
Until now, it warmed up to 190F and...

1984 Wolfsburg: 10-yr shed sitting, restore? by
JoVee
I had a '78 Rabbit I bought new and kept running till it was killed at 160k.
There's no car I've liked as well since.
This is an 84 Wolfsburg Rabbit that a friend left me.
It's been in a shed,
dusty not rusty
hasn't been started since stored,
no special storage procedures,
The tires hold air,

Advice needed replacing A3 brakerotors and strut mounts. by
[email protected]
I just took my '98 Jetta TDI (w/ 87k miles) to Firestone for a
maintenance inspection to get my annual PA state inspection sticker
(after getting cited yesterday for it being expired). They denied
passing my vehicle and found (surprise, surprise...) that the
following needed immediate...

97 Jetta GT rear brake caliper bracket bolts stripping by
Chad Leigh
Hi
Yesterday I successfully replaced the rear brake disc and pads on the
driver side rear wheel on my 97 Jetta GT. I had to go to Sears and
Checker Auto 2x each to get various tools, a halogen light as it got
dark, and other things :-) but it was successful. I used both the
Bentley and Haynes...

replacing timing belt by
Sven Agardh
I have a Passat TDI '00. When I asked the VAG dealer how much he would
charge me for replacing the timing belt the price he gave me was, at
least to my ears, very high. The specification of the price included a
new water pump. When I asked him why, he answered that you always
replace the water pump...

Key for 99 Jetta by
Ted & Lisa Nicholson
My son just bought a 99 Jetta and it came with only one key. It is one of
those switchblade keys. What he would really like is a regular key. He
doesn't even care about the remote. The person he bought the car from said
that the 99s don't have the computer chip in them and we can just get a...

diesel passat 2002 - intermittent starting problem. by
bob
I use the car about once every 3 or 4 days and it starts fine from
cold but having driven around for half an hour or so, then parked the
car for an half an hour, turning the ignition lights up the dash and
all indicators but no starter motor. This can happen up to 5 times
before the starter motor...

2000 Passat instrument cluster electrical short + smoke! by
Martin Mainfeld
Hi, all,
I've got a 2000 Passat 4-motion with just 31k miles. On a recent road
trip, while going about 70MPH on the highway, something in the dashboard
shorted, and I was greeted with a nice puff of smoke in the face!
Needless to say, this scared the crap out of me. I pulled over, and
noticed...

CEL on Particle Filter by
[email protected]
Here is the issue:
I have a mostly continuous CEL that VW diagnoses as an "internal crack on the particle filter". The flow is not blocked, there is no increased pollution (per VW anyway) and the car starts, idles and runs properly with no decrease in mileage. There are no signs of physical...

Remove the fuel pump on a 1995 VR6 by
Mark
I have already removed the large nut/ring from the top of the pump and
I was even able to remove the upper assembly. This is the assembly
that has the float arm attached to it. When I attempt to remove the
pump from the bottom of the tank it just holds tight. I have the
Bentley manual and I am...

2 springs on A2 brake pressure regulator by
Mr.Eddy
Greetz All,
I recently replaced all 4 rotors on my '86 GTI. After about a week of
driving, I noticed that on both rear rotors, there was about a half inch
band of surface rust on the inner diameter of the disc, and the
machining marks had not gone away like they had in the front. This rust
is only...

Fuse for reverse lights for 1995 Golf GTi by
Daniel Lynes
Hello. I am just wondering if anyone knows what the correct fuse size
is for the backup lights on a 1995 Golf GTi? The fuse that was in there
was a 15w; however, every time I try to replace it, it blows as soon as
I turn the key to the 'On' position. The fuse panel cover neglects to
mention what...
