Window Sash by
\Harry Smith\
Hello all,
Just a quick question for you knowledgable folk. I ordered new window
seals for my 1974 Beetle. I did one door and everything went fine,
except I must not have put the window back glass into the sash (I
believe that is the word for the metal channel that holds it)
correctly because the...

Engine Lid Spring Trick by
\Harry Smith\
Hi,
I just put my Bug back together after a bit of a lay-up. One things
baffled me. What's the trick for putting the spring back on the deck
lid? (Or hood, bonnet, whatever)
I know I have done it before but this time all I can come up with is
to install it pre-compressed with some big heavyduty...

Stretched Exhaust Valves by
\Harry Smith\
Hi gang,
You might remember me posting about this a few months ago, when I said
I probably wouldn't get back to it for a few months... Today I'm glad
to say I've gotten back to it. The car in question is a '74 standard
Beetle, "customized" by a previous owner, with a generic Mexican
replacement...

Valve Spring Retainer Wear by
\Harry Smith\
Hello all,
Now that my '74 standard bug is no longer my daily driver I find
myself worrying about something that I noticed a while ago. The engine
is a Mexican 1600 with unknown mileage. I am embarassed to say it does
not have cooling flaps and the air seal isn't perfect either so I know
it's been...

Upper Shock Mount Stipped by
zungguzeng
I stripped the upper shock mount on my 76 bus. (Pretty new to this
stuff.) There is no bolt on the backside and very little space behind
it, not enough to run a nut behind it. Does anyone have any ideas? A
source for a metric tap that will work? Thanks for the help.

generator to alternator conversion by
[email protected]
Well I can see that there have been a number of posts about this over
the years, but none of the other ones really answer my questions.
I have a 1965 VW Type 1 (1200cc engine) and I am upgrading it from 6v
to 12v, replacing all the normal things (generator with alternator,
oil stand, coil, flasher...

personally sell me) one particular part of the headliner for a 1965
bug. my bug sat in the sun for years and years in my grandpa's
driveway before he gave it to me to fix up and keep. the sun rotted
most of the carpet, but left...

'65 bug... defective choke or heater element? by
[email protected]
Hey everyone, i posted here earlier about my run-on problems. Many
thanks to everyone who replied, but nothing worked out for me. So i've
got a new idea. I think that my engine diesels/runs on so badly after
i shut it off is because the RPM is too high. I set the idle RPM and
mixture properly...

run-on and excessive fuel consumption, 1965 Bug by
[email protected]
I've been reading posts on this website for a long time now, but this
is my first post. And since I can usually take care of problems on my
own, it's going to be a long post.
I've got a 1965 VW Type 1, stock 1200, 6 volt. Bahama Blue. Name:
Frauline. My grandfather bought it new in 1965 and gave...

fast beetle by
zitvlak
have any of you guys seen the beetle doing a long burnout, racing a lambo
and other stuff on
www.streetfire.net ? I read it was turbocharged but so are the cars it
races. There are several pages and I have seen the same white beetle on
three vids. I want mine to do that.
any opinions?

Body swap (63 for 70) by
zigford
Will a 70 (Standard Beetle) body fit on a 63 chasis?
I have a spare body lined up and rather than replace heater channel's
and various other rusted bits, this would be easier if no modifications
are nessecary.
Cheers

king pins / link pins by
zigford
I took the body off of my 63 beetle the other day, just to do I couple
of jobs easier.
I noticed that the drivers side inner tie rod was loose, so am
replacing that.
Also noticed that the upper drivers side link pin has stacks of
movement in it (Side to side)
Is there a way to tighten this, or...

heater channel question by
zigford
Howdie again.
I have gotten as far as removing all paint from around the heater
channel to remove spot welds and the like.
Now what do I do with the pipe that delivers the heat? Is there a way
to reuse it? is there a way to remove it without cutting it? If I do
have to cut it, where do I...
