Howdy by
Malcolm
Thought I'd swing back through. Still tinkering with the VDubs from
time to time. If you remember, we bought a sad looking 71 Super for my
daughter back in 2002 and I was in here a lot with various questions.
Followed that up with a partially restored 69 Type I for myself.
Painted the 71 with...

Free Degree Wheel by
BobHoover
A recent thread about the advantages of vacuum-advance distributors in
which I mentioned making your own temporary degree wheel using a CAD
program or simply marking your present pulley at some point to show
maximum advance (ie, 28 to 32 degrees before TDC) resulted in a number
of queries. This...

Distributor Experiment: Success by
Harry Smith
Hi,
Thought I'd put the results of my experiment on record. I've got a
'74 Std. Beetle that came with a 34 PICT and 009, and my roomie has a
'76 Van with 2.0L stock FI. We're in the process of swapping the type
IV engine into the Bug and the 1600 into the van, but in the mean time
I'm driving...

Valve clearance by
Anthony W
The guy at the local air cooled VW shop here told me that with swivel
foot valve adjusters that the valve clearance should be set at .002"
cold. This seems awfully tight to me and I'm concerned about burning up
my valves. Any opinions?

Brakes issue by
Elvin Rambaran
Hi guys. I have a 1965 Type 1 that is giving me headaches. When I try to
brake, the pedal hits the floor. Pumping the brakes causes the brakes to
hold, albeit not too well. I have bled the complete system, including the 4
wheel cylinders and the master cylinder, and I have also adjusted the...

Reflection On Winter In A VW by
Jon[_5_]
I've been driving the vw all winter this year. It has been an
excellent car. We had some major ice storms around here a few weeks
ago and my car had no problems getting out and about, avoiding ditches
and the rear-ends of other people's cars. Work even had me go around
and pick up people who...

Help, I need to know what engine is in my bug. It is not the original.
Previous owner put a rebuilt in several years ago but doesn't remember

Rust repair around rear window by
Harry Balzac
Hello, Ladies and Gentlemen
This is my first visit here after several years. (Used to be a regular when
I was doing the kit car project.) A couple of days ago I bought a 1969
Bug. It runs OK, the interior is rough, and the body is in great shape
(sort of). There is not a spot of rust on the...

Previous Owner Syndrome by

Interesting... something I hadn't noticed before. I was going over the

assemblies are not wired to have a parking/running light them, yes I know
that there is the parking/running light in the headlight assembly. They...

Brake drums by
azazel scratch
Fellow air-cooled drivers,
I saw 2 rear brake drums at a garage sale over the weekend. The drums are
used but appear to be in great condition. The guy selling them owned a VW
Bug but sold it. He thinks the drums are German but is not sure. I see the
letters "BDC" stamped on the inside. If...

VW 1968 ignition switch by
Alvin75
Hi, could anyone explain to me how the ignition switch works? I own a 1968
Beetle and I have a serious problem with ignition: when I turn the key, i do
not feel any "resistence" between the second and the third position... at
the end neither the engine nor the starter itself work.
The fact is...

Removing the armrest by
[email protected]
I have a 2002 jetta TDI and the armrest between the two seats appears
to be coming loose. It no longer stays in place when you adjust it
and there is a gap between the two sides, as if the bolts are
loosening.
Anyone know how to tighten this back up?
