Temp Gauge... by
Manuel Macedo
Hi,
Just bought a temp gauge for my '70 1300 bug and I was wondering: What is
the normal temperature riding at 90 km/h in a highway for an hour?
Beginning what temperature should I start to worry, want at what temperature
should I just pull over.
Thanks
MM

83mm piston problem by
[email protected]
I'm tring to rebuild a 1964 40hp engine and was doing good till I tried
installing the Mahle 83mm pistons. The bottom of the pistons hit a
small area inside the case. So before I shave a little off the bottom
of the piston is this the way to go? Thanks

What to do with old AS41 cases? by
Lynn Martin
I got 2 of them. AE 668445 is a good one with no cracks with 10 mm studs.
The other one, AE 282650, is probably a boat anchor.
I was told that the 2nd engine came from an older lady who drove up, and
said it was "making a knocking noise". She had disintegrated #2 rod into
pieces, and was still...

SP VS DP by
Bart Bervoets
Just a question, what are the advantages/disadvantages
of a single port 1600 VS a dual port 1600?
I have both and want to decide what to build up, has
to go into a split bus.

How long does a solid shortblock/bottom end last by
zigford
I know nobody likes to answer these questions as their a tons of
variables to consider such as: How often oil is changed, oil quality,
engine temp, thrashing the engine, blah blah.
But I have heard that the long block usually lasts about 60,000 miles.
How long can you expect a well looked after...

Hello, All!
My daughter is away at college and she's in a small town with no VW dealers

upholstery from kit. Easy or hard to do? by
Rick Bass
I have no Uph. experience, however very Mech inclined. are they
difficult, I'll buy the tools, providing I'm able to do the job.
Are the kits for front and back sets like some of the tins you can get
for the motors, adjusting here adjusting there, to make the damn thing
work.

Back in the Saddle! by
KWW
Got my bug back from being fixed. It was HARD to get myself to pay someone
to fix it for me, but the lifting involved in the necessary repairs made it
a bad idea for me to do now.
Jenny not only has a smooth ride now, but she accelerates and shifts like
new! Much quieter too! Also PASSED...
