Door locks on Passat by
Tado
I recently purchased a 99 Passat GLS and have a quick question.
The door lock on the outside drivers door will unlock and lock
only the drivers door, but it will not arm/disarm the alarm and
will not lock/unlock all the other door locks. The passenger door
lock and trunk lock work as described in...

Passat rear brake trouble by
[email protected]
Hello people,
I took my 2003 VW Passat wagon in for its 20,000 mile service
maintenance yesterday. The mechanic observed that the rear brake
rotors were warped and replaced them. VW covered the cost f
replacement as a "one time warranty action".
I am perplexed as to why the rotors warped. I...

1992 GTI - starting problem by

Yes, everything was still working. I'm pretty confident it's the
well-known "heat soak" problem (consistent with being a '92 automatic).
The car...

TDI Question--short trips by
KokomoKid
Maybe this has been discussed, but if so, I missed it. I have a Jetta TDI
which, between long trips, is often used for short trips, like 2-3 miles.
Is this any worse for a TDI than for a gas engine? The reason that it seems
like it might be is that part (or most) of what is bad about short trips...

If MOT centre gets it wrong.. possible to get money back? by
Signal
Just had a test centre fail my Mk3 Golf, cause : "front macpherson
strut has excessive movement in the upper support bearing assembly".
This is reported for both front sides. He said when the car was
lifted, there was 1cm (or 1in.. can't remember) of play.
I have since spoken to VW and two other...

What's this tic-toc from behind the dash? by
Bert Hyman
I have an '02 Passat wagon, 1.8T and AT.
A few weeks ago I noticed a muted "tic-toc" sound coming from behind the
dash, repeating at an interval of about 5 seconds or so.
I noticed it first on driving down the alley and navigating the local
streets. After a few minutes and on the freeway, I'd...

I went out to my 94 Jetta GL Auto to take it for it’s Sunday drive
(it‘s my back-up vehicle) only to discover that it’s (12 month old)
battery was dead. That’s when I found the parking light switch in the
on position...
Q: When I jump start it Monday, will the alternator be sufficient to
bring it...

2001 GTi - "clinking" sound over bumps by
1.8 Turbo
My GTi seems to produce a "clinking" sound when I drive over things such as
speed bumps, curbs, etc. I have a lowered the suspension using the Eibach
ProKit springs (1" drop or so) which I put on myself, 4 wheel alignment
subsequently done at the dealer. I've wondered what might be causing...

Cabrio Rollbar Question by
S John M-M
Now that I've had my VW a few months, 1995 Cabrio, I can affirm I'm
still in love with it, and it's the best suited to me car I've ever
owned--new or used. Anyhow, now that the weather's dictated I travel
more with the top up than down, something got me curious:
The top of the rollbar has a thin...

A2 Steering Wheel by
Tony Bad
I was trying to swap wheels from my parked 86 Jetta into my 91 Jetta, but found
there is a different hub size (91 is larger).
Anyone know which year A2's (or even other years) will work easily without any
adapter?
The plastic on my 91's wheel seems to have gotten rigid, and on cold days, the
horn...

Head unit for Y2K Passat with Monsoon? by
Jeff McLean
As an earlier post might have suggested, my CD player has stopped
accepting CDs. Very strange. CD player will only select "changer" (there
isn't one) and ejects the CDs. This is on my 2000 Passat with the Monsoon
sound system. Double DIN, if I have the terminology right: I've got one
unit that...

90 Golf is great, but jumpy when it's damp by
Ldray
I just purchased a 90 Golf GL with nearly 240.000 miles. It has been
well maintained, has a brand new distributor even. The plug wires have
also been replaced. The previous owner told me that it stalls when
it's driven in the wet occasionally. It stalls for about 5 minutes,
then all is...

When the brake pedal on this car started going to the floor, I looked for
signs of leaking brake fluid and leaks on any of the brake lines or wheel
cylinders. I found none and the brake fluid reservoir which sits atop the
master cylinder was at it's full mark. I suspected that the master...

You may remember me from such posts as "Intermittent Spark in 1979 Rabbit",

Well now my "working" Rabbit - an 83 GTI - is also out of commission.
Interestingly, the problem appears to be the same. No spark, as measured by
my timing gun on the high voltage wire from coil...

VR6 water pump by

after 136,000 miles, my '95 Passat decided to croak it's water
pump...The belt and tensioner were replaced at 100,000 miles
(tensioner died and ruined the belt), so with only 36 K on them I'd
like to re-use them, unless I am being too cheap...
I'll replace the AC compressor, finally, while I am...
