What about wheel offset? by Karls Vladimir Peña
Thank you all for your answers on the previous post about the aspect ratio on a stock tire. Do you have any idea on the offset of the stock 4.5" x 15" wheel? TIA, Karls

Possible trade... by WJ
What I have: (1) Red 90 Mazda Miata base model, 162K miles, bone stock except for an Alpine cassette deck and electric antenna. Factory hard top included. This car is in great shape for it's age. The paint is original, so it's a bit faded. It does need a new soft top, and the headrest speakers...

Best path for resto on a budget? by Kevin Holzer
Hey all, I'm working on restoring my 71 Ghia and need a bit of direction. There is minor rust (bubbling around the antenna, drivers side wheel well, battery, some around the horn -- poor front end bodywork like every other ghia out there; not much if any rust through). There are a couple of dents...

Heater boxes loose casing by Fred
Both my heater boxes have what I am calling "loose outer casings". The sheetmetal on the outside of the boxes is loose and moving around. The ends that connect to the muffler and the engine are solid and they do not appear to be rusted. I can visualize the inside, with the fins around the pipes...

Tachometer by Speedy Jim
Analog tachs go way, way back to magneto days. Today, the circuitry usually has some kind of transistor/IC circuit which gets a signal from the engine spark ignition and creates a "standard" width pulse for each spark. The faster the engine runs, the more of these "standard" pulses are generated...

Need advice: droning, humming noise from front (40 MPH) by Emily Steed
Symptoms: After a out of town mechanic (I was on a trip) replaced the right front tie rod approx. 300 miles ago, started getting droning (sounds like high speed rubbing or vibration, but *not* a high pitched squeaking noise) at 40 MPH plus. On a level road, car is quiet if steering straight...

Cold start-ups oil question? by Tom Nakashima
I was reading an article the other day, that the most wear on the engine could from cold start-ups. I was thinking of switching oils to a 5-30w (conventional oil, no synthetics). If anyone in this NG runs 5-30w in their air-cooled beetle I would be interested in their comments. -tom

Them analog tachometers by Mike Rocket J. Squirrel Elliott
This question has to do with the operation of those things -- maybe a Speedy Jim question. The Wonderbus has a VDO analog tach on the dash that I find pretty useful. But now and again it decides to malfunction. In various ways. Sometimes it just sits at 2,000 rpm regardless of engine rpms, and...

Installing new shocks: Old sleeve stuck! by Kevin Holzer
While pulling off my old front shocks on my ghia (balljoint, if you wanted to know), the old sleeve (from the bottom of the old shock -- if I'm using the incorrect word here, its the thing that goes inbetween the stud on the car and the bushing in the shock) stayed on the bottom stud on the car. I...

Hi! I want to get a new battery for my '73 Beetle. Auto Zone has a nice looking one. It is a Duralast Gold for $69.99. Actually it is not the stock replacement battery for my '73 Beetle, but dimensions are the same and has better specifications. The problem is, that it does not have a positive...

Electrical problem... this is a good one. by James Rupp
A couple weeks ago a was in an accident with my 71 bug. The body shop had to pull the front end out a couple inches in order to get the new fenders and hood to fit. Now that I got it back, the brake lights don't work, the dash lights don't work, the turn signals will stay on if I turn off the car...
