Automatic Vanagon Must Shift to Start by
[email protected]
Well, my 91 Automatic Vanagon has a starting problem. About 65% of the
time (and growing) I go to start her up there is no noise or cranking
or anything from the engine area. The electric works fine at this
time.
If I shift it into N and then try to start it it works sometimes.
If I shift it...

Rust-resistant VWs - when do they start? by
WT
I'm still driving my trusty '86 GTI, with a mere 138,000km on the odometer.
Nevertheless, 19 years of Canadian winter driving and salted roads have
eaten away at wheel wells, and the bottoms of both doors. Presumably, over
the past 2 decades, VW engineers have improved coatings, selected better...

AFTERMARKET 2.0 IGN. COILS WARNING by
dave AKA vwdoc1[_1_]
Found another bad one (HUGO brand IIRC) on a 1996 Jetta auto yesterday and
it does not look old and weathered. It will spark and even get spark to the
plugs but the spark is just too weak. I must have found 3-4 different
brands that just don't last long. I ONLY purchase these from the...

97 jetta wheel noise by
[email protected]
I have a 97 Jetta that has recently started making noises. When I turn
the wheel slightly to the left, there is a loud grinding noise that
comes from the drivers side of the car. When I turn the wheel more to
the left the noise goes away, and it does not make any noise when
turned to the right. ...

Low pressure tires by
Jonny
Awhile back, established at this newsgroup that AC compressor use does
affect gas mileage in small vehicles like an older VW with small engine.
How drastically can tire pressure affect gas mileage in similar older VW
with small engine (1.8L)?
An example. Recommended tire pressures by VW. These...

Need advice on 2002 Passat battery replacement by
William Maslin
We've had our 2002 1.8T Passat for about 4 1/2 years now so I suspect
the battery will conk out in the near future. We live 80 miles from the
dealership so I'm looking for other options. Posts on VW Vortex
suggest that the battery that Autozone sells won't fit in a B5.5 Passat
even with an...

dashboard squeak by
starburst
Hi drivers-
Last summer, some fellow kindly ripped the stereo out of the dashboard
of my 89 Jetta. The damage wasn't too bad, it was clear that he had bent
the dash in a couple of places trying to pry out the radio, but there
were only a few cracks visible. I could live with it. Now that it's...

Volkswagen service or Just Brakes? by
Gary D
My brake pad wear indicator light came on a few days ago for my 2000 vw
beetle. I probably need new pads all the way around. I'm thinking of
going to one of the discount brake shops like "Just Brakes" or "Brakes
Plus". Do they do good work or should I stick with having VW dealer
service department...
