Catalytic converter
 

I live in Southern California. I replaced the catalytic converters on my truck and have been looking for a place to sell the old ones to compensate my cost of $800.00 I paid for the new one. If I can’t find a place willing to give me some money for it I will be trashing it. Can anyone give me some advice?

Read article on issue here. It's long but you need to know the ins and
outs of how to get best price. It says the average is about $100, but
could be more depending on specifics.

Thank you for the information.
Unfortunately Rockaway Recycling is located in New Jersey.
In order to sell it to them I would have to cut out my catalytic converters from the rest of the tubing, package them, and then ship them to New Jersey in order to get paid. After the time spent and the postage paid, it would not be worth it to me to sell it to them. I find it hard to believe that there isn’t a similar place here in the South West but I have called dozens of places including:

but have failed to find anyplace that is willing to buy them.

Maybe call a few muffler places and ask them who comes and gets their old ones.

I just called them and they said that I have to have some kind of special business license to sell it to them.
So much for my effort to protect the environment and getting back some of the money that I paid for the new ones I bought. In to the trash it will go.

You might not be able to sell it to them, but you could give it to them.

That would fulfill one of your two goals.

My uncle and my cousin have a junk yard, that is a scrap metal business.
For a while 30 years ago my cousin was collecting converters, waiting
for someone who would buy them, to recycle the platinum, to arise. He
showed me a pile of converters, but I don't know what happened after
that.
