>I see people go straight from the left turn lane all the time. I >attribute it to the stupid way the traffic signals are programmed here >- quite often people who want to turn left get sick of waiting for the >damned arrow to come on If there *is* an arrow! Some of the busiest intersections in L.A. are "Left turn yield on green"-only, and considering how many fools won't pull into the intersection[1] and how slow the surface drivers tend to move, you'll grow old waiting. >and just drive straight through the intersection. Yup, I'll check my mirror, and if there's no one coming and I don't have to make that turn, give up and go straight. -Kenny [1] - (and this *is* a Cali thing- I've had folks on the other side- and it's always the lame ones who pull thru lights at 3MPH- slow or even stop when I pull up, even though I'm not in their oncoming path, which implies to me that "pull in while waiting" just isn't done here. -- Kenneth R. I usually get the opposite effect -- at an intersection where it *is* marked "2 lanes turn left" and the driver in the #1 lane wants to swing out into the #3 lane. Seems to happen a lot at freeway offramps -- two left turn lanes turning into a three-lane street. Guy in the #1 lane wants to swing out into #2 because it's a tight turn (it wouldn't be, if he knew how to turn properly, but that's a different peeve) and assumes I will be happy in #3 -- except that #3 is "exit only" to the freeway onramp. Gary Ansok -- If you draw a "4" (one with an open top), then draw three more, and turn them so that they are at right angle dodecapludecahedrons, then throw in a "3" and an "18" -- well, that's kind of how that intersection is designed. -- D.P. I had one woman in MB SUV run a red light in front of me, and when I honked while getting everything out of the 4 wheel drums of my '73 ford, stopped, blocked my path and flipped me off with BOTH hands. She then called the cops me because I wouldn't give in to her, but tried to get around her massive vehicle. She dropped it when the cop told her she would get a ticket for running the red. |
