If there *is* an arrow! Some of the busiest intersections in L.A. are
"Left turn yield on green"-only, and considering how many fools won't
pull into the intersection[1] and how slow the surface drivers tend
to move, you'll grow old waiting.

>and just drive straight through the intersection.

Yup, I'll check my mirror, and if there's no one coming and I don't
have to make that turn, give up and go straight.

-Kenny

[1] - (and this *is* a Cali thing- I've had folks on the other side-
and it's always the lame ones who pull thru lights at 3MPH- slow or
even stop when I pull up, even though I'm not in their oncoming path,
which implies to me that "pull in while waiting" just isn't done here.

I usually get the opposite effect -- at an intersection where it *is*
marked "2 lanes turn left" and the driver in the #1 lane wants to
swing out into the #3 lane.

Seems to happen a lot at freeway offramps -- two left turn lanes
turning into a three-lane street. Guy in the #1 lane wants to swing
out into #2 because it's a tight turn (it wouldn't be, if he knew how
to turn properly, but that's a different peeve) and assumes I will
be happy in #3 -- except that #3 is "exit only" to the freeway onramp.

If you draw a "4" (one with an open top), then draw three more, and turn
them so that they are at right angle dodecapludecahedrons, then throw in a
"3" and an "18" -- well, that's kind of how that intersection is designed.

Those are all over Monterey. Aguajito at Del Monte. One block down at
Elestero & Del Monte. Another block south at Franklin & Elestero. The
two Del Monte "Twin Left Turn" lanes are on routes that tourists are
directed to for access to Cannery Row, most of those drivers are in
rented cars that they are not familiar with to begin with, then they
are sent down some poorly marked streets.

The Elestero to Del Monte turn is good for scaring the misguided
tourist AND the hippy protesters that gather at the park with their
upside down flags on weekends. A SUV with a loud horn, taking wild
evasive action scares the already confused tourist in the Avis
Cavalier AND the hippies that think the SUV is going to drive up on
the sidewalk.

I had one woman in MB SUV run a red light in front of me, and when I
honked while getting everything out of the 4 wheel drums of my '73 ford,
stopped, blocked my path and flipped me off with BOTH hands. She then
called the cops me because I wouldn't give in to her, but tried to get
around her massive vehicle. She dropped it when the cop told her she
would get a ticket for running the red.
