Retro fit Auto trans from 2000 Golf to 1996 Golf (2L)
Hello,
I am hoping that someone here may be able to assist me, we have installed a auto trans from a 2000 Golf GL into a 1996 Golf GL (2L) and find that the passenger driveshaft is about 1/2 - 3/4" too long. If you have any ideas or suggestions regarding another driveshaft from a different Golf / year etc., we'd appreciate hearing from you. We have been told not to have the existing driveshaft shortened due to the risk of it not being able to be re-balanced. Looking forward to any help you may be able to offer us. Thanks, Ian. |

You really don't have much choice but to find another by any means , or get
it shortened. You should have two driveshafts to try at least. your original and the doner engines. Are they the same length. Can you check auto parts stores for different lengths. Can you hit up a junkyard and find a short one. Try and call a vw engine swap place. call parts place for VWs in Michigan and ask them. At a reputable drive shaft place. shortening and balancing is not an issue. Its their job. If you don't want to pay , well that's something else. http://vw.bsiracing.com/ This place offers shortened VW shafts for SCCA cars. That use full suspension travel and compress their halfshafts till they break. I have one in my 85 diesel golf due to VWs stupidity. Maybe they can shorten one for you. or tell you who does theirs.
