Default Points to Electronic Ignition

Due to the great weather we are having here in WI. I'm picking up my
bug from storage tonight. Because I MUST do something beside drive it,
I'm thinking of going from points to Electronic Ignition. I thinking
of going with something like:

PERTRONIX ELECTRONIC IGNITION FOR STOCK VACUUM ADVANCE

or

COMPU-FIRE IGNITION MODULE

Any recomendations would be great! Anybody tried these or sell them
and can recomend something (John)?

71 Std
1600cc DP
Dual Vacuum Dist.
Stock Bosch Blue Coil (can change this)

The trigger magnets on the Compufire module have a wider radius, hence
greater accuracy. But that said, the Pertronix have a better build
quality, so go with the latter, the prices are about the same.

If you want a noticeable difference you need a CDI module/box as well, I
use a Tiger unit from Universial Industries. Makes for easier starts in
all weather.

J.

Ps. Both purchased from www.Aircooled.net

What is a CDI box exactly? What does it do?

I'v ordered a few things from aircooled (disk brakes and other parts)
and have been VERY happy. Exceeded my expectations with assistance
(thanks John) quality and speed in shipping.

Thanks for the advice,
John

Capacitor Discharge Ignition, basically it amplifies the voltage going
to the coil to about 400V, stock coil works just fine.
A rotor without the built in resistor is recommended though, that and
re-gapping your plugs to 1mm.

I agree, go with Pertronix. It's a much better built unit and it doesn't
have some of the design flaws of the Compufire (Or Accufire, which is
really the same product). RPM range is not an issue, I have used many
many units on the street and in race cars, and they keep up beautifully
past 9000rpms. Spark timing is smooth and solid, it does not jump around.

And yea... CDI is nice.

And hell yea, get everything from Ac.net!
