"ICE" contact...
Instead of any useful information, this weekend the signs on chicago area expressways had the following message: PUT AN "ICE" CONTACT ON YOUR CELL PHONE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. Anyone know what this means or have a clue why it supplanted any useful traffic info? |

You're supposed to put an entry into your cellphone's contacts with a number to be called, say if you're mangled body is found but your cellphone is intact. Supposedly, it saves the paramedics and others from hunting through the listing (i.e. does he really want us to call his mom, or grandpa Joe, or Suzzy, or any of a bunch of other numbers) |

Something similar went around Aus not long ago. Here's a clever idea, if a paramedic finds my phone after I've been in an accident, call the number on my phone listed under "Home". -- SL "The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to it utterly and can never again escape from it" Joseph Goebbels - Nazi Minister of Propaganda, 1933 - 1945 |

The point is that ICE is universal and they don 't have to look for wife or

Husband, wife, and "home" are pretty universal, though. -Dave |

That way there's no need to guess what number to call. Graham |
