Newsgroup vs Facebook
Bert's remark in another post (Well, newsgroups are a thing of the 20th
century,) refers. I had a look on Facebook - there are several Alfa Romeo pages there - must still explore them some more. The Alfa 156 page on FB seems to be mainly photos of owners cars, contributions in several languages. Not nearly as good as this AR ng is (or was!) Picked up this Youtube link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWcFBe1L5QQ Nearly as fast as you guys go 'round the M25? Malcolm Osborne South Africa 1999 156 2.0 TS |

Not nearly as good as this AR ng is (or > was!) FB was never really designed for this kind of discussion, AFAIK. Usenet really was built from the ground up. The closest thing are the web forums, but once you've got used to a decent newsreader, they seem (to me at least) hopelessly clunky. The Maserati UK forum, for example, is IMHO really *really* poor to use. And that's comparatively low traffic (at least the sections I read are) There's no threading, that what counts IMHO. And yet, they are popular cos most people don't know what the difference is twixt email, www, usenet etc etc. So they think that's all there is. Still, we mostly had a good run. > > Picked up this Youtube link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWcFBe1L5QQ > > Nearly as fast as you guys go 'round the M25? Heh. I reckon he short shifted at least twice, and once he must have barely got the clutch up before he shifted down again. But it's *real* easy to criticise from here -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 GTV TS GT 3.2 V6 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. #www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk |

Not forgeting that many people have short attention spans and cannot see pictures in their heads. > Still, we mostly had a good run. 30 years - do you think Facebook/Twitter will last that long? -- Rob Pearson 156 1.9jtd sportwagon (now) 164 V6 Lusso (gone) |
