It swells up rubber hoses and seals. You would be best of at getting a store brand conventional DOT 3 brake fluid from a local parts store like O Reilys, Auto Zone, or Advance Auto. Take your time. You might as well also replace the stop light switches.
I replace the stop light switches on my ‘73 Beetle about every 3 years. It seems that they go out not much longer after that. Here’s the brake bleeder I use: http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1184 http://www.aircooled.net/new-bin/vie...ZE0055&cartid= Call and ask if it’s in stock. These links might be helpful: http://www.vw-resource.com/bleed2.html http://www.vw-resource.com/bleed.html On Jun 9, 6:21*pm, Jim Ed > wrote: > On Jun 9, 4:40*am, "John" > wrote: > > > Got to replace a few brake hoses and noticed there are a few variants of > > brake fluid. If the stop light switches are original, you might want to risk using them. Much obliged Jim. Switches are the original German ones. So far no problems
with them and have a few spares. I,ve connected up the brake circuit alarm light. All switches and cabling was installed. They just didnt put in the alarm lamp which probably saved them $1 or so!!!!!! "Jim Ed" > wrote in message ... If the stop light switches are original, you might want to risk using them.
