Default Alfa GT Servicing & running costs

Hello,

I'm in Australia. The Alfa GT has come out last month
and the only version we get is the V6 which is the one
that I'm really after anyhow.

I was speaking to my current, (non dealer), Alfa
mechanic and he told me that the service costs will be
rather steep. For example he said that around 40k kms
the pads AND the disks would need to be changed at a
cost of approx. $2000 AUS/$1440US. Is he exaggerating?

Also from what I read the fuel consumption is around 18L
per 100km around the city. Can someone confirm this and
what exactly do the three different cycles entail. From
what I gather there is highway, city and in between.
What is sacrificed in running these different cycles? I
presume power but to what degree.

Any other service costs that I should be aware of e.g.
cam belts. I'm getting conflicting reports on these as
well. Are the electronics more reliable than the past...

I realise that this kind of car is not exactly cheap to
run but looking at various web sites I'm getting
conflicting reports on what is involved and WHEN various
servicing is required. Granted it's a new model but I
would like to know as much as I can on what I'm up
against before the money changes hands.

Would appreciate any input/URLs that could be aimed my
way.

Sure he is.
Price will be similar to 147/156 as the parts are the same!!

They measure in a very strictly defined test situation the fuel consumption
on 2 very strictly defined test tracks.
In fact it is so defined that it can be measured on a testbed under perfect
conditions as well.
One is the "highway" setting, the other the "city"
From the outcome of the two they calculate the "mix".
From what I can conclude from the different figures the car manufacturers
give, highway (low consumption) is taken for 62½% and city (high
consumption) for 37½%
The GT 3.2V6 has following figures:
highway 7.2l/100km or 32.5mpg
city 15.5l/100km or 15.2mpg
mix 10.3l/100km or 22.8mpg
This looks a bit low comparing to i.e. the GTV & Spider (city 19.9 / highway
9.3 and mix 13.2l/100km)
In my personal way of driving (defensive yet fast, no traffic light sprints,
10% city, 70% country road, 20% highway) I average a 5% higher fuel
consumption than the mix

I suppose in the city and with a bit of a heavy foot, 18l/100km is a good
figure.
So to come to YOUR mix consumption you would have to calculate with your
personal "mix" as well as calculate your heavy of light right foot.

Reliablitiy of Alfa is high; cost of maintenance is normal compared to the
similarly classed cars, actual repairs can be pricely (yet scarce)
Tyres and brake wear can be "regulated" by your right foot as well.

It's new, yet the under body stuff is well known from 147/156, so very
little surprises to be expected.
Re-sale value is very difficult to determine; I guess it would be slightly
lower write of than the higher volume models 147/156
In Holland my average write of of my 75/155's/156 had been 45% over 4 years
/ 125-150.000km

Go for it if yoyu can afford it; it's a blast!!!
I had to restrict myself to the 2.0JTS (budget !!); it's a long wait from
end May to January!!!
