This beautiful car is a Ford Comète. The vehicle was bodied by F&M who also
later built the Facel Vega. The Comète used a French Ford chassis and the
European small Ford flathead V8 engine that was later extended into the
Simca Vedette range that lasted until the 1960s. You can see the
resemblance between this body and the one later used on the Facel Vegas.
This was one of those cases where you had a beautiful car in search of a
worthy engine. Just imagine it with a nice little Oldsmobile V8 or even
that small Studebaker V8 that would have fit quite well. Of course, a good
6 like the one offered by the sister Ford plant in England would have given
more power, better economy and much less weight but even back then, just as
now, Ford wasn't talking to Ford.
