Snoman,
I also see the same problem with your subject line headers that Doug has repeatedly pointed out and presume that others see this as well. Although it does not affect my newsreader and the threads display correctly, I agree that your configuration is not quite right and deserves looking into. Direct Injection (WAS: Saturn hopes to beat Honda, Toyota inhybrid sales)

Okay, I hadn't read about that before. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline_direct_injection Sounds interesting and potentially usable for some items. I only wonder if you can get the same torque out of a GDi engine. Of course the latest common rail diesel (CRD) engines don't acutally use direct injection anymore. The bosch injectors are actually more like the ones in gas engines where the fuel is mixed prior to injection in the cylinder. (At least that's how I underststand it.) I just like diesel because of the ability to run on veggie oil and other common items. > If they would fully move coal based gas with a very high > octane and stop providing support for 87 octane they could make large > gains in MPG. One reason a diesel tends to get more MPG (other than > the fuel having a bit more energy) is because of their very high CR > that extracts more energy for expanding gasses as they burn. Yes, hence turbos in gas engines. I see the CR is higher in GDi engines. Interesting. > just do not relize how much 87 holds things back because it limits > efficency and compression. The use advanced knock control to mask it but > it hurts MPG and power at times. Yeah, but it is certianly cheaper when you're filling up your 30-gallon tank at Costco for $2.41 as opposed to $2.85 for premium 89 octane. (Obviously I'm referring to my Avalanche and not my wife's Vue.) > I feel that when DI gas motors make it > to the main stream that diesels will loose a lot of luster because even > with current fuel DI allows for a CR increase of about 1 or 2 points and > a increase on power and MPG by 10 to 15% . Interesting argument.
