Miata 02 Transmission problem
Hi Gang:
I am planning buying a 02 Mazda Miata MX5 SE. I showed it to a AAA mechanic and he says that the car has a transmission case leak and transmission output seal needs to be replaced.. I just wanted to know how much expense I am looking at before I get the car Thanks Manu |

Miata 02 Transmission problem
If it's leaking badly, just the seal may or may not fix the problem.
Used five speed trannys are not that expensive if it's more than a seal. Even if it is, the tailshaft assy is easily removed and replaced or repaired with a new bushing or bearing. (Don't remember which is used). The seal can easily be replaced, with most of the expense being labor to disconnect the driveshaft, remove the old seal, and put in a new one.
