They must have a grand time with SUVs and pickups that have "hidden"
compartments to store items out of sight.

Hell, send a email to your local PD, the state police, and the US Att
Gen.
Then it isn't secret any more.
Keep copies in the compartment and if they find it they will be
confused as to what they should do. That's not to say something won't
be planted, but it will be less likely.

I'd like to think that would be the easy solution to the problem, but
I suspect it would probably require lots of lawyers, guns, and money
to get anywhere with that tack.
