news:bJKFi.34835$Pd4.13892@edtnps82... This is kind of weird but maybe you can explain it to me Max. I always thought this model was called the Montclair --- not the Monterey --- and yet I can see the script on the fender with my own eyes. I remember the Monterey as being just about the same thing except it didn't have the "scallop" under the side windows. It was a little cheaper than the Montclair, which was Mercury's top of the line car in '55. -- Paddy's Pig |

Hi Pat, I agree with you about the Monterey vs. Montclair. My guess is
that an owner or maybe even the selling dealer decided to retrofit that chrome on this Monterey. It was fairly common to see that same trim applied to Fords in those years and it looked quite good on them too. Since this car has the factory air conditioning, something that would have been extremely rare and expensive in 1955, I wouldn't be surprised if someone decided to "improve" a standard Monterey to make it look like a Montclair. The interior is definitely a Monterey interior, without the rear seat centre armrest of the Montclair hardtops and with the simpler door and side panel trim.
