Default YOU CAN'T DRIVE TOO SLOW

Not while we have 110 americans killed EVERY DAY on our highways. And
thousands more injured. Terrorists are a microscopic problem compared
to speeders.

Translation: I have nothing to say regarding this point, because it makes
too much sense for my brain to handle.

Welll... you can't much do a lot about it - you can go as slow as you want, and
the death toll will still be unacceptable.

It is amazing that we put up with this, on an absolute scale. I mean, if there
_were_ terrorists taking down 110 Americans a day, there would be armed citizen
patrols, curfews, etc. But, we're just USED TO THIS.

Question: If there were a solution that would cut the carnage in half
_without_ slowing down commerce, how much would it be worth? If we could build
our way out of it at ($1 million per mile? $10 million per mile? $100 million
per mile) would we pay it? And how many thousands of miles would be required
to effect this halving of the death toll? Just the interstates? Prolly not.
Interstates, US higways, and State highways? Maybe.

Whats it worth, really?

Cars already have collision avoidance systems on some models. There is at
least one model that also prevents your car from wandering out of a lane for
example if you fall asleep at the wheel.

Reducing the accident and death rate is mainly a function of electronics,
not lanes. Congress will be pushing the cliché of the "accident free car"
with new electronic approaches. Of course "accident free" is probably a
goal instead of a potential reality.

Translation: Crapola = Crapola. Speeders aren't the problem. Bad drivers
are.

Hey dood. Measures like lower speed limits and suspended licenses or
jail time for reckless drivers would pay for itself. Tens of billions
of $ would be saved every year in medical bills and property damage.

MORON!!!! It's a function of criminal coddling. If speeders and DUIs
and RLRs and CPDs knew they would lose their license or go to jail if
caught, then they wouldn't do those things and highway deaths would
drop 90% overnight.
