learned that that photo was taken in 1974, after a failed urban renewal
program in the area, resulting in more decay and what you see.
current photos of the street show a much more appealing scene.
and its only one 1/2 block from the Fedex Forum arena

did notice several things during our trips to the Memphis area.
when the B-17 Memphis Belle was there, it was always covered with dirt &
dust, the AF noticed as well, since they pulled it out and sent it to
Wright Pat to be restored.
and all the bridges and overpasses had chains or cable retrofitted to
keep them from moving and falling in the event of earthquake.
(Memphis is very close to a dangerous fault zone)

That could be the New Madrid Fault.
