"00" 328i Headlights burning out
Greetings,
I have a 2000 328i. I have owned it for about a year and have replaced the headlights three times. Occasionally I get a warning light that states my headlights are out, but the lamps are fine. I have also lost a couple tailights. I'm suspecting a problem with the charging system. Any thoughts? thanks Glen Ray |

Measure the voltage at the battery with the engine running, all
accessories turned off. Different automakers have different voltage specs, I have seen 13.5V +/- 0.5V, 14.0V +/- 0.5V and 14.5V +/- 0.5V. Don't know what BMW specifies. Keep an eye on the voltmeter as you gradually increase the engine RPM up to 4000. If the voltage ever goes above 15.0V, there is a problem with the voltage regulator. Excess voltage reduces lamp life dramatically. Glen wrote: > > Greetings, > I have a 2000 328i. If it's any use, my E39 stays near solid at 13.8V. -- *Why is "abbreviated" such a long word? Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
